Jacuzzi Big L Soaks In After Games Just Old Hot Dog Water

By: Harold Leeder

August 25, 2016

As the Lexington Legends get ready to close out another “riveting” season of minor league baseball, several sources have confirmed that there is serious tension brewing between the front office brass and Lexington’s 3rd favorite mascot, Big L. The in-fighting is reportedly tied to Big L’s “off the field” behavior and his post-game clubhouse celebrations taking place in his jacuzzi, which team officials say is filled entirely with old hot dog water.

Some are saying it’s the Legends’ best kept secret, but these parties are starting to spill over into the clubhouse. Literally, Big L has started having so many girls in the jacuzzi at one time, the hot dog water is spilling into the clubhouse, causing both a distraction and damage to the facility and equipment. “He also yells out things like ‘I don’t know about you guys, but these balls are ready to strike!'”, says one anonymous player, “so I can’t bring my wife and kids to the clubhouse anymore.”

Team officials have said that the hot tub was shut down in 2006 due to budget cuts, but that didn’t stop Big L. “He came stumbling back one night after a Thirsty Thursday,” says one anonymous team official, “and loudly mimed for everyone to see that ‘the jacuzzi is back open for business!’ and had filled the whole thing with old hot dog water. We’re not sure if that’s a health code violation, but what goes on in that thing definitely is. Despite the fact that he tells us ‘ain’t none of these broads getting pregnant through this foam suit, bro’ after every home game.”

“I just like soaking my buns in hot dog water,” Big L mimed. “Got the idea from watching Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi dunk buns in hot dog water on the 4th of July. I even add some specials herbs and spices making it my Hot Tub Thyme Machine. However, my favorite thing to add to it is Rosemary*.”

*One team official confirmed just before press release that when Big L says “Rosemary,” he’s referring to, “some hot blonde named Rose and her cute friend, Mary.”

Painting of ‘Dogs Playing Poker’ Purchased At Woodland Art Fair Left In Hot Car

By: Harold Leeder

August 23, 2016

A 34-year-old Winchester resident is facing art cruelty charges after firefighters were unable to rescue a dog painting locked inside the hot car.  Emergency crews responded at approximately 2:37 pm to a report of a dog painting trapped inside of a vehicle outside of Woodland Park.

The value of the piece had depreciated, but was described by police as the work of famed soccer-mom artist Minnie van Gogh. Eventually, firefighters gained entry to the vehicle and tried to cool the canvas with their hose, effectively ruining the painting since it was an oil painting, and oil and water don’t mix.

The dog painting’s owner, identified as Christie York of Winchester was arrested and charged with felony animal art cruelty, according to Police. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal Art say it only takes six minutes in a hot car for a painting of an animal to succumb to the heat. “It was my ex-husband’s weekend to watch the art, this is all his fault,” Christie explained.

“I just don’t understand why they had to break my window,” Christie complained. Dan Jackson, owner of the Jackson Potluck food truck shot back “I don’t understand how someone could show such a lack of appreciation for a living work of art.” Sal of Salvador’s Deli summarized the whole thing by saying “it was just all so surreal.”

Richmond Road Applebee’s Holds Impressive Closing Ceremony

By: Harold Leeder

August 22, 2016

All good things must come to an end. All mediocre things must also come to an end, and Sunday saw the end of the Richmond Road Applebee’s location, as the restaurant held its closing ceremony.

As is tradition, the ceremony featured the extinguishing of the Applebee’s flame grill by line cook Kevin, as well as a flamboyant dance routine by the waitstaff. The ceremony also included the official handover of the “going out of business” sign to the Denny’s on Nicholasville Road, which, let’s be honest, we all hope is the next restaurant to hold a closing ceremony.

While tasteful isn’t an accurate way to describe the cuisine at Applebee’s, it was the word local diner Randy Miller used to describe the closing ceremony itself. Miller, who’s attended every restaurant closing ceremony in Lexington for the past decade, praised Applebee’s on their effort, but also said the ceremony didn’t quite stack up with some of the ones he’s seen over the years.

“I’d say Coba Cocina’s from earlier this year was probably my favorite,” Miller told us. “It was just so extravagant. I mean, when they let the water out of those jellyfish tanks it was extremely poignant. You kind of had to be there. I’ll be honest, it kind of stung a little bit knowing that was the end.”

Michael Phelps Beats American Pharoah In Exhibition Race After Pharoah Drowns In Pool

August 19, 2016

Michael Phelps, the most decorated man-fish of all-time, continued his hot streak yesterday after dominating Triple Crown winner American Pharoah in an exhibition race to raise money to cover Ryan Lochte’s legal fees from Rio. Despite drawing the inside post, American Pharoah came up short against the swim legend when he appeared to struggle with the backstroke, leading to his permanent demise.

“I knew AP would be a tough opponent so to make the race fair,” tells Phelps, “we decided to have it in his home state of Kentucky at the Beaumont YMCA which gave him home field advantage. And to balance that out, I was able to pick the race and went with the 200m individual medley, mostly because it  allows me to showcase all the different strokes for the different folks who are maybe not hardcore swim fans but just everyday people. Turned out to be the right decision because that colt couldn’t backstroke to save his life….literally.”

Despite the conditions, American Pharoah was expected to put up a better fight against the mythical water God after proving at The Preakness a sloppy track couldn’t slow him down. Trainer Bob Baffert says while he felt the colt was mentally ready for the race, all the “action” he’s been getting down at the stables as of late might’ve had him in sub-par shape physically. “I don’t like to make excuses but it’s hard to perform at a high level when your owner has you on a schedule that would’ve made Wilt Chamberlain look celibate.”

The all-knowing and all-powerful Phelps described the moments after the race as both chaotic and surreal. “When I came out of the pool, everyone was yelling and screaming but I wasn’t sure why. That was until I stopped to look around and saw it….I had broke my own record…again. People were screaming things like ‘Oh my God!’ but look, I’m no God. And I hate to keep beating a dead horse with this, but I’m just an American hero who’s the best at swimming back and forth in a pool really fast every four years.”

Student Searching For Books At Kennedy’s Told To Look In The Back And To The Left

By: Harold Leeder

August 18, 2016

An overachieving UK freshman looking to buy his books a few days early stopped by Kennedy’s Schoolbook Depository Wildcat Den to pick up his assigned reading for the semester. Upon entering the store, freshman Jackie Ruby approached a store employee in the ‘Super Savings 20% Off Deal-y Plaza’ for help and was immediately directed to the back and to the left according to cashier Adam Zapruder, who witnessed the entire event.

Not everyone is buying this account of the story though. Sophomore Olivia Stone said “I saw that girl ask Oswald over at the door where to find books for her HIS104 class, but those books are at the front and to the right. She went to the back and to the left. That means she must’ve asked someone else where to find the books. I think there must’ve been a second employee over by the golf apparel. I don’t know who it would’ve been though. Could’ve been Warren, he works over there sometimes. But he wouldn’t lie, he doesn’t get paid hourly… Warren works on commission.”

Unsuccessful in finding the required books, Jackie returned to her dorm and her roommate Lynda Johnston took over the textbook shopping.

Top 9 Tips No One Else Will Give UK’s Incoming Freshmen

By: Harold Leeder

August 17, 2016

In case you were wondering why you were late to work this morning, UK classes have started back up again. Other than telling these kids to stop walking out into the middle of the street and to pace themselves at football tailgates so they can make it to basketball season; let’s give them some tips to help these students survive their first year in Lexington. Here’s the first nine that popped into our head.

9) Your RA isn’t as cool as you think they are. They’re an upperclassman…still living in the dorms.

8) Don’t sleep with all the girls you meet. You’ll need to know a few of them at the end of the semester that still have money on their food card.

7) Keep your shower flip flops and formal flip flops separate.

6) Make sure to checkout UK’s radio station, 88.1 WRFL. You’ll learn more about what a radio is in your Ancient History course.

5) The three main food groups, now that you’re at UK, are- Tolly Ho, Cookout and that Steak ‘n Shake below your dorm.

4) Bring something comfortable to sit on in class like a blanket or lawn chair. We can’t give President Capilouto a 48% salary increase AND have desks.

3) Put the acoustic guitar away Todd. No one wants to hear it…no one. I mean, you’re still a freshman and haven’t even tried out the good drugs yet.

2) If you’re still attending the university sponsored events in October, I am sorry to inform you, you’re a huge nerd and will probably be alone forever.

1) Look to your left, now look to your right. You see all those people working 12 hour shifts doing landscaping? They have the same degree you’re going for. Yay, Class of 2020.

Monday’s Talon Winery Tasting Event Overtaken By Sommelier Pirates

By: Harold Leeder

August 16, 2016

Armed with nothing but corkscrews and tastevins, a rag-tag group of Sommelier pirates were able to overtake the attendees of a Talon Winery tasting event on Monday evening.

While the motives of people who attend wine tastings on Mondays are unclear, the goal of the Sommelier pirates was to gain control of the port, and other red wines.

“Hey! Look at me! I’m having the Cabernet now,” shouted one pirate as he entered the Homestead Tasting Room.

“I feared for my life,” said the leader of the wine tasting, Catherine Phillips, who traveled all the way from Philadelphia to get her Monday wine fix.

A photographer from Tops In Lex was present at the event taking photos of all the tasters in attendance, but he put his camera away once he saw that Sommelier pirates would also be there.

Midsummer Nights Runs For Once Not The Fault Of Shakespeare & Company

By: Harold Leeder

August 15, 2016

The Midsummer Night’s Run took place this past weekend, accidentally occurring at the end of summer for the 12th year in a row. Hundreds took part in this year’s event if you count dogs, babies in strollers and homeless people that wandered onto the course. While it couldn’t be called a race, since all the Kenyans were in Rio, the evening jog was still a success for the city but an even larger success for the owners of Shakespeare & Company who could finally deflect the blame for folks having the Midsummer Night’s runs. We weren’t able to find the results online but since this is kind of a distance run, we assume the winner was an Othello look alike.

“We had heard from a number of customers that our name sounds like some old writer’s name,” said Shakespeare & Company Shift Manager Nathan Brute. “We tried to get in the spirit because this run, named after a Shakespeare work, goes all out to really make it Shakespeare themed. So we released a new omelet loaded with ham for the week and named it ‘The Hamlet.’ I think we sold a bunch.” Nathan then interrupted one of the chefs while he was making a caesar salad to ask how many they had actually sold. “Eh, two Brute? Maybe three,” the chef replied.

This is the first week Lexingtonians were able to use the phrase Midsummer night runs and not refer to the aftermath of a very expensive Shakespeare & Company meal. We spoke with race participant and occasional Shakespeare & Company customer Brennen Fields. “Last week I had the Gone Fishing burger and within an hour there was toil and trouble. My colon burned and my stomach bubbled.”
