Midsummer Nights Runs For Once Not The Fault Of Shakespeare & Company

The Midsummer Night’s Run took place this past weekend, accidentally occurring at the end of summer for the 12th year in a row. Hundreds took part in this year’s event if you count dogs, babies in strollers and homeless people that wandered onto the course. While it couldn’t be called a race, since all the Kenyans were in Rio, the evening jog was still a success for the city but an even larger success for the owners of Shakespeare & Company who could finally deflect the blame for folks having the Midsummer Night’s runs. We weren’t able to find the results online but since this is kind of a distance run, we assume the winner was an Othello look alike.

“We had heard from a number of customers that our name sounds like some old writer’s name,” said Shakespeare & Company Shift Manager Nathan Brute. “We tried to get in the spirit because this run, named after a Shakespeare work, goes all out to really make it Shakespeare themed. So we released a new omelet loaded with ham for the week and named it ‘The Hamlet.’ I think we sold a bunch.” Nathan then interrupted one of the chefs while he was making a caesar salad to ask how many they had actually sold. “Eh, two Brute? Maybe three,” the chef replied.

This is the first week Lexingtonians were able to use the phrase Midsummer night runs and not refer to the aftermath of a very expensive Shakespeare & Company meal. We spoke with race participant and occasional Shakespeare & Company customer Brennen Fields. “Last week I had the Gone Fishing burger and within an hour there was toil and trouble. My colon burned and my stomach bubbled.”
