Health Department Announces China Hut Will Be Giving Up Serving Food For Lent

By: Harold Leeder

March 1, 2017

The Lexington Health Department celebrated Fat Tuesday like many Americans, by going out to eat food that is not good for you. Then, on Ash Wednesday the announcement was made that China Hut would be giving up serving food for lent after the Health Department hit them with a 66 health score, a grade so low that it wouldn’t even be considered passing at BCTC.

When reached for comment a spokeswoman for china hut, Terri Withaneye, said “hey man, flip that bad boy upside down and you got a 99. It was an unfair grade, most of the poor score was given just due to unsanitary food handling practices, since when has that ever hurt anyone?”

Terri continued, “Don’t you think it’s fishy that they posted all this stuff here so close to Easter. I mean, Jesus broke the bread for the last supper with his bare hands, now we’re getting punished for doing the same thing with our egg rolls? Seems unfair.”

Shortly after the Health Department released the score, China Hut incorporated the card into a new slogan. Painted on their window customers will find, “Bi66er Meals, Lower Prices.”

Dozens Accidentally Tune Into ABC 36 News After Oscars Run Long

By: Harold Leeder

February 27, 2017

Most likely still shocked and confused about whatever it was that happened at the end of The Oscars last night, dozens of Lexington residents accidentally tuned into ABC 36 News after the awards show ended, causing the news program to reach double digit viewers for the first time this year.

“I’ve always heard rumors there was a third news station in Lexington,” said one local viewer, “but I didn’t believe it until last night. The Oscars ended so crazily and abruptly, then all of a sudden there were people reading the news in front of what appeared to be a $40 green screen purchased at Big Lots.”

Another viewer simply couldn’t find her remote.

“I think the remote fell underneath my couch or something, so I was forced to watch the news broadcast on channel 36. It definitely didn’t look as fancy as the news you’ll find on LEX 18 or WKYT, but all the graphics looked pretty good considering they were done in Microsoft Paint,” she told us.

“I only watch the last 15 minutes of the Oscars every year, because that’s when all the good stuff happens,” said a man who watched the entire Daytona 500 from start to finish. “Going from that absurd Oscars ending to what looked like teenagers reading the news made for a really surreal television experience. I might start watching ABC 36 News more often though, it really brought back memories of my childhood, when news stations used dial-up internet and Windows 95. The broadcast had a real ‘America Online’ feel to it.”

The spike in viewers caused ABC 36 to hit a three year high in the Nelson ratings, a television ratings system compiled by Lexington resident Cathy Nelson using a digital antenna she bought at a yard sale.

“According to my calculations, they didn’t quite reach the ratings of Me TV or Ion Television, but they were right on par with that channel that’s just a screen of a weather map. And they slightly surpassed that PBS channel that only comes in if the sky is clear, which you can actually determine by watching that channel that’s just a screen of a weather map,” Cathy Nelson told us.

Waddy Resident Adds Restrictor Plate To El Camino Ahead Of Sunday’s Peytona 500

By: Harold Leeder

February 24, 2017

It’s a big weekend for residents of Shelby County, as this Sunday they’ll gather along Interstate 64 to compete in the fifth annual Peytona 500. The race will consist of 500 laps around both sides of the interstate at exit 43.

It’s never too early to start preparing for the race, which is why many competitors have already begun making modifications to their cars, including early favorite Jimmy Dale Gordon Junior, who’s already added a restrictor plate to his 1983 El Camino.

Gordon Junior, a two-time winner of the event, takes the race very seriously.

“This is the Super Bowl of racing for cars that can also pull a boat,” he told us. “Some people might just see it as an unnecessary spectacle that’s needlessly dangerous, and those people are absolutely correct, but that don’t mean I’m not gonna give it all I got.”

The Peytona 500 has not been without controversy over the years. The first annual race saw an unfortunate collision with the mythical Waddy Werewolf, resulting in several caution laps. To avoid history repeating itself, the race has since removed the Ditto Road portion of the track.

The race is also known for some of its unexpected finishes over the years. Three years ago the race was won by a Lexington man who just happened to be traveling to Louisville at the time.

“Yeah I was on my way to Louisville when I saw the Waddy-Peytona exit. I had never stopped at that exit before, even though every time I pass I say ‘Waddy-Peytona’ out loud to myself and start laughing. This time I decided I would check out the exit, but when I pulled off there were El Caminos and Ford Probes driving recklessly everywhere, so I immediately turned right back around and just headed back toward Lexington. A sheriff pulled me over about a half mile up the road to tell me I had just won the Peytona 500. The prize package included a lifetime supply of showers at the Flying J, so that’s been nice.”

McConnell’s New Tour Features 15 Costume Changes In One Speech

By: Harold Leeder

February 23, 2017

Senator Mitch McConnell’s “Home For The Holidays” speaking tour takes him to Covington today, where he plans to dazzle an audience of both Northern Kentucky’s and Cincinnati’s chambers of commerce, using an act filled with as many hits as there are costume changes.

So far this year’s tour has set record attendance numbers for the senator, and many fans are having trouble obtaining tickets for the shows. However, this hasn’t stopped many of the self-proclaimed “turtleheads” from showing up. In fact, many of the ticketless McConnell faithful, still line up outside the venue with their homemade signs, sing songs and chant, just with the hope of catching a glimpse of the political superstar.

Those fortunate enough to make it inside are treated to what we’re told is an action packed show filled with speeches as explosive as the pyrotechnics.

We spoke with McConnell’s choreographer, who explained that while the show is fun for fans, there’s still a lot of hard work that goes into it. The team has worked overtime ensuring the senator, featured dancer “Left Turtle,” and the rest of the team stays on beat and on message.

The senator, in perhaps his most thrilling part of the show, transitions from the breakout hit of his long pop-litical career, “Watch Me (Majority Whip/NaeNae)” to his now famous medley “A Tribute To Coalplay.”

McConnell explains with pride, “The show closes as the beat drops out, all the frills and background music fades away, as me and the crowd sing with one voice,

Rah rah ah-ah-ah!

O-ba-ma –ah-ah ah!

McConnell oh-la-la!

Repeal Obamacare.”

Knockouts Haircuts: Not Your Daddy’s Barbershop, But Definitely Your Stepdad Rick’s

By: Harold Leeder

February 22, 2017

As heard in the radio commercial that often plays directly after Morgan and Morgan’s “For Our Grandchildren” advert, Knockouts Haircuts For Men is “not your daddy’s barbershop.” It is, however, your stepdad Rick’s barbershop, sources confirmed this week.

“I’ve been coming here since they opened,” said Rick, a man who is clearly someone’s stepdad. “Look, their mom knew what she was getting into when she married me. Just because you’re on a diet don’t mean you can’t look at the menu,” said Rick as he stuffed a single into his hairdresser’s apron.

Sources confirmed that Knockouts is also the barbershop of the following people: that older kid Cody, the weird guy at the bus stop with that cool Slayer jacket, and, surprisingly, Joyce from human resources.

“I always pay a little extra so my haircut lasts through three songs,” Joyce from human resources told us.

Rick offered some advice to any other stepdads thinking of getting their hair cut at Knockouts.

“Don’t go during lunch. It may seem like a good deal at first, because of the free buffet, but trust me, that’s the B-team. Wait until nighttime to get the good stuff.”

Officer Don Goes Undercover Posing As Teen At Lexington Traffic School

By: Harold Leeder

February 17, 2017

Hoping no one would notice his unmarked helicopter, an undercover Officer Don reportedly posed as a teenager at a Lexington traffic school this week. The covert operation was apparently part of a WKYT investigation on traffic school, but why Officer Don felt the need to dress up as a teenager is still unclear.

“He kept asking weird questions, like the best place in Lexington to run a stop sign,” said traffic school student Mark Rogers. “I’m pretty much a traffic school veteran, this is my sixth time taking the class, so I knew something was up. Also, he was clearly an adult man who for some reason dressed and acted like a teenager.”

That wasn’t the end of Officer Don’s weird behavior.

“He told me he could knock three points off my record if I became a confidential informant for him,” another student told us. “But I ain’t no snitch. Also I just generally didn’t trust him, because it was very obvious he was just an older dude dressed up like a teenager.”

We attempted to ask Officer Don why he was undercover at traffic school, and why he decided to dress as a teenager, but he insisted he was just a 16 year old adolescent named Brandon.

“Not sure who this Officer Don guy is,” he told us. “I’m just a normal kid named Brandon who made a couple of driving mistakes and ended up in this traffic school. Being a normal teen is tough sometimes. By the way, hit me up on Instagram and follow me on twitter, @lexteenbrandon,” he added.

Ken Ham Plans To Take Ark Encounter To Lake Cumberland For The Weekend

By: Harold Leeder

February 16, 2017

If you’re headed to northern Kentucky this weekend to visit the Ark Encounter prepare to be disappointed, and not just for the normal reasons. Owner Ken Ham announced he is taking the Ark down from it’s dry dock, hitching it to the back of his F-150 and “haulin ‘er down to Lake Cumberland for a nice relaxing weekend of abnormally warm weather which was in no way caused by humans.”

“A lot of people have told me I’m crazy to take this thing out on the water,” Ham said. “But, in my opinion, you don’t spend 62 million tax free dollars on a nice boat like this and not take it out on the water somtimes. You can’t leave this in the garage, this lady needs to stretch her sea legs.”

Ham said he’s taken the boat out before and the results have been terrific. “I took her out about a year ago and, I wasn’t even trying to fish or anything but stripers just kept jumping into the boat two by two!”

Ham said he expects this weekend to be full of fun in the sun. “We’ve got all kinds of awesome stuff planned. I’m gonna tie a rope to the back of her and we’re gonna do some tubing on an exact replica of the basket baby Moses used to shred waves on the Nile when he was young.”

Local houseboat hero Dan Glass of Courtesy on Wheels could only admire the lake-sized vessel, “man, that thing is SWEET!”

Former Time Warner Office Mates Now On Opposite Ends Of The Spectrum Building

By: Harold Leeder

February 15, 2017

Like certain colors, the ramifications of corporate mergers aren’t always visible to the naked eye. However, those ramifications were brought to light in Lexington this week, as two coworkers who once shared an office while working for the now defunct Time Warner Cable were forced to relocate, finding themselves on opposite ends of the Spectrum building.

Royland Gerald Biven, or Roy G. Biv as he’s known among his coworkers, was recently separated from his long time office mate Violet Green after evil cable conglomerate Spectrum absorbed slightly less evil cable conglomerate Time Warner.

“Color me sad,” said Biven. “Providing terrible customer service used to be fun because I knew that Violet was always there beside me, also providing terrible customer service. But now she’s on the opposite end of the building, and I’m just providing terrible customer service all by myself, wondering if life even matters anymore.”

“It’s definitely going to take some getting used to. But I think I’ll adjust. I’m just happy to be working for a company that’s at the forefront of innovation,” Violet told us while trying to convince a customer that landline phones were still a thing normal people used.

Joe B. Hall To Recreate Beyonce’s Grammy Performance At Halftime On Tuesday

By: Harold Leeder

February 13, 2017

Coach Joe B. Hall has announced that he wants to honor 2017’s biggest night in divahood, with a repeat performance of his own interpretation of Beyonce’s 9 minute grammy performance Tuesday night when he takes center court at Rupp Arena during the halftime festivities of UK vs. Tennessee game.

Embracing his new role as halftime performance artist, the former coach plans to unveil his new act under the stage name Joe Bey Hall.

Joe Bey announced, “I’ve always been a fan of lemonade.” Though he admits he prefers the lemonade at Lee’s Famous Recipe over the Beyonce album, he’s determined to win over fans of both with his moving tribute to mothers everywhere.

“I’m really looking forward to sitting in that chair and leaning back, most of it will be that to be honest. It just makes sense, since I’ve already got the outfit,” explained the beloved former wildcat coach, “and I got this hat that looks like the chair from game of thrones that I painted orange specifically for this Tennessee game.”

Former players spoke out immediately on twitter when Beyonce came on screen claiming that Coach Hall had done this exact same routine at halftime of the 1978 NCAA Championship game. He promised a moving experience for all in attendance, “We’re going to heal, let it be glorious, and first things first lets heal any of you that might have a hearing loss.”

Sleep Outfitters, Mattress Firm Build Giant Pillow Fort Across Nicholasville Road

By: Harold Leeder

February 10, 2017

Once thought to be bitter rivals in the nighttime comfort game, Sleep Outfitters and Mattress Firm teamed up this week to build the world’s largest pillow fort across Nicholasville Road.

Ironically situated directly across from each other on the seven lane highway, like the plot of a terrible 80’s movie, the two mattress moguls set aside their differences and thread counts in order to complete the pedestrian sleepover bridge.

“I’m always encouraged when two competing businesses can work together,” said former vice mayor Jim Gray after navigating the box spring barracks. “The fact that this will increase traffic congestion on Nicholasville Road is just icing on the cake.”

While the structure may upset the thousands of drivers who travel Nicholasville Road and the tens of customers who eat at that KFC, it’s likely here to stay. Our legal experts tell us the sheer amount of “Do Not Remove Under Penalty Of Law” tags present on the mattresses make the legality of the fortress pretty ironclad.
