Bevin’s New Medicaid Subscription Plan Has Kentuckians Just Using Friend’s Password

By: Harold Leeder

July 8, 2016

Governor Matt Bevin’s new Medicaid subscription plan has many Kentuckians scrambling to find someone that already has an existing Medicaid account whose password they can use. With Bevin taking a page out of the popular Netflix business model, Kentuckians will be paying a monthly subscription fee, which they most likely can’t afford, hence them being on Medicaid. The plan calls for Kentuckians to pay a monthly fee between $1 and $15 based on their income. So, for instance, if you’re just above the poverty line, you obviously will be paying the maximum under the current proposal.

Many Kentuckians we spoke with who can’t afford their own account are concerned about getting access to a Medicaid plan. “I’m having trouble,” explains Uncle Terry, “finding someone who has already met their deductible so I can use their password. It’s already been three days and I gotta get this lawn mower blade removed from my leg, preferably with no out-of-pocket costs. And I can’t sign up for a 30 day free trial because I already did that last month when I thought I broke my femur. Turned out I was just a little gassy.”

Some Medicaid users have spent quite a bit of time browsing through all the different options that the new plan offers, but can never decide on one. With so many choices such as ‘Historical Doctor-mentaries’, ‘Diabetes With A Strong Female Lead’ and ‘Alien Sci-Fi’, some users are finding themselves suffering from panic attacks and sleep deprivation. Others aren’t buying it. “Look, I’ve watched Grey’s Anatomy enough to know,” tells Medicaid nurse Jackie, “when someone is suffering from actual anxiety or when they’ve just been binge watching their insurance premium rates go up all weekend.”

One new feature that Bevin’s plan offers is for citizens with pre-existing conditions. “Yeah, when I logged in,” reported Medicaid customer John Cue,” it told me, ‘because you liked having a pre-existing condition, you might also like being denied for most claims.’ And then it wouldn’t let me view which general hospitals I could go to to have my pacemaker and sleep apnea mask checked, because it said I had too many devices going to review my account.”

While most Kentuckians agree, this plan is going to financially cripple many struggling families, others are looking for ways to find more affordable healthcare. Some Kentuckians have been able to switch over to HMO GO, while others are left to BitTorrent their medication. “I’m just hoping to get on one of them premium subscriptions,” says Uncle Terry, “so I don’t have to sit through all those magazine ads in the doctor’s waiting  room.”

Dwyane Wade Agrees To Deal With 98.1 The Bull

By: Harold Leeder

July 7, 2016

Shocking news was released late last night that is sure the change the landscape of Lexington media. It was announced that coveted NBA free-agent Dwyane Wade has agreed to a lucrative deal, not with the Chicago Bulls, but due to a miscommunication with his agent, Wade signed a two-year agreement with Lexington radio moguls 98.1 The Bull. Wade’s agent took to Twitter to explain the mistake. “I let my guard down for two seconds and now, I’ve let my two guard (Wade) down.” Many were shocked by Wade’s move to Lexington radio. Others were simply surprised that Wade would sign with The Bull. Lexington radio insiders with knowledge of the situation said they fully expected Wade to re-sign a deal with 107.9 to remain a member of The Beat.

Even though the signing occurred in error, Wade seems to be committed to helping The Bull get to the top. “This was not an easy decision, but I feel I have made the right choice,” Wade said during his introductory press conference. Other members of the team seem committed to making the move work as well. Officer Don restructured his contract to free up guaranteed money and John McNece has agreed to a reduced role within the station.

Wade’s show debuted this morning on the country station during the morning dribble drive time slot. The show is tentatively named Dwyane’s World, and uses the tagline “Party on Garth… Brooks.” Early reports from the station suggest there was a steep learning curve during the first show. Roughly ten minutes into the show, a call-in request for some songs by The Band Perry led to Wade playing ‘Roar,’ ‘Firework,’ and ‘I Kissed A Girl.’ After another call-in request led to Wade talking at length about his younger days in Miami, when he was able to easily drain buckets from well beyond the Florida Georgia Line, coworkers decided to step in. “We decided we had to do something to help him with this country music lingo. So we all pitched in, and got him a copy of the Keith Urban Dictionary,” fellow on-air personality Andy Woods said.

This move is just the latest in a busy week of radio free agency as stations have been working hard to load up on talent. Wade fills a spot at 98.1 left when DJ Derek Rose was moved over the 94.5 The Mix during a Tradio on your Radio session. Rose said he was hurt by the decision, among other things. The biggest news of radio free agency, though, came when the already loaded 105.5 Lexington Rewind announced the new all 80’s afternoon show hosted by Kevin Duran Durant.

Shanghai Bistro Hackers Likely Stole Secret Recipe From Village Idiot Female Server

By: Harold Leeder

July 6, 2016

Tensions have been running high on West Short Street this week after staff members of The Village Idiot learned that their secret burger recipe had possibly been compromised. The popular downtown spot, known for being Lexington’s first gastropub (which we’re sure is exciting if you know what a gastropub is), was alerted of the breach by their server, Kimberly Rodman earlier in this week. Rodman, who had foolishly taken the recipe home, had the classified ingredients on her personal computer with plans to try and recreate, in her own kitchen, her employers all-too-perfectly named burger, “The Idiot.”

Village Idiot ownership has reason to believe the hackers are working for the local Chinese restaurant, Shanghai Bistro. With Lexington’s major food competition, ‘Burger Week’, starting on Monday, it’s no secret that Shanghai Bistro has been trying to find a way to redeem themselves from last year’s poor showing. While the Bistro wasn’t necessarily expected to win last year’s inaugural event, no one could have predicted the backlash they received from the abomination that was their Crab Rangoon burger. Management and staff blamed the failure on a lack of experience making burgers on a grill. “Everyone knows,” said Shanghai Bistro cook Johnny Yang, “that we Moo Goo Gai Pan fry everything here, baby.”

News of Kimberly Rodman’s extremely careless actions have already reached other restaurant owners who plan to compete in ‘Burger Week’, and many are not happy. Some, including Lexington favorite Red State BBQ, have called for The Village Idiot to bow out of the competition.

“How can we let the Village Idiot be in the running to win the highest honor in the Lexington land if they can’t be trusted with their own classified information?” asked Red State BBQ manager Billy Shane Cyrus. “Don’t they realize the damage a Chinese restaurant could do with that kind of information coupled with their low overhead and large clintele? We wouldn’t stand a chance. Their consumer base is huge.”

Fox 56 anchor Bill Bryant has been particularly critical of the Village Idiot and also the head of ‘Burger Week’s’ competition committee, Ruth Burger Ginsberg since news of the scandal broke. “Not only are we ignoring a blatant disregard for top secret information,” argued Bryant, “but we’re also ignoring a very important precedent set last year. When General Tso from Panda Express got caught leaking classified information last year, he was immediately fined and suspended from the burger competition for two years, right? Guess Tso should’ve done what that crooked Kimberly Rodman did. Seems having your husband, Willy Rodman, go and sweet talk the head of the competition committee at Cinnabon inside the Bluegrass Airport was clearly the smart move. There’s sticky buns all over the Rodman’s fingers with this.”

With the decision coming down this morning to not fire Rodman for her reckless behavior, many find themselves torn on the issue. While some staff members are happy she’s staying with the company, others feel like this is “classic Kimberly.”

“Yeah, she tries to make everyone believe she’s a good girl and smart and all that,” explains Village Idiot cook John Short, “but she does whatever she wants and tells people what they wanna hear. Like, one minute she acts like she knows all about hardcore punk bands like most of the cooks and then the next she’s acting like she’s never heard of Fugazi. Then flops and says she does know Fugazi and has even seen them in concert. But after further discussion, turns out she saw Fauxgazi, who are just a Fugazi cover-up band.”

Third Shift R.J. Corman Employee Asks For Transfer To All The Live-Long Day Shift

By: Harold Leeder

July 5, 2016

Citing a desire to put his new Sleep Train mattress to good use and get his sleep schedule back on track, third shift R.J. Corman employee Willie Thomas formally requested a transfer to the all the live-long day shift this week.

Thomas began his career at R.J. Corman in the late nineties as a part-time train supervisor, known in the railroad industry as a semi-conductor. He slowly built up steam and eventually landed a gig as training supervisor on the night shift. However, Thomas began to grow tired of the late nights that constantly saw him leaving on a midnight train to Georgia.

“It wasn’t just Georgia,” he told us. “A lot of times my journeys could take me on a midnight train going anywhere. It’s hard to pass the time when you’re on the night shift. I feel like if I’m on the all the live-long day shift I can pass the time away much easier.”

Thomas told us a move to the all the live-long day shift would likely improve his relationship with his wife Dinah. He also hopes a more regular sleep schedule will reduce the hallucinations he’s been having.

“Sometimes I come home from work really early, and I’m super tired, and I’ll have these hallucinations where I hear Dinah in the kitchen,” Thomas said. “But it’s not just Dinah in the kitchen. Someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah. I know they are. And for some reason they’re strumming on an old banjo.”

“Yeah, those are just Willie’s hallucinations,” said Dinah Thomas. “There’s definitely not anyone in the kitchen with me. Especially not our neighbor Randy.”

“I really need this transfer,” Thomas explained. “I mean, I’m hallucinating, my mind is playing tricks on me. Mental wounds aren’t healing, it’s driving me insane. I’m going off the rails on a crazy train.”

Disgruntled Starbucks Employees Defiantly Dump English Breakfast Tea Into Boston Rd

By: Harold Leeder

July 4, 2016

BOSTON (Road)–Cleaning crews are quickly working this morning to reopen Boston Road after a group of disgruntled Starbucks employees shut it down in an act of protest. Several workers from the large coffee empire declared their intentions to leave the company at the start of their shift today, and then proceeded to dump all the English Breakfast tea right into Boston Road.  Even though only six cases were dumped, after reviewing menu prices, the loss of product is estimated to be around $275,000.

“After years of being suppressed as workers,” says one protester, “it was necessary for us to dissolve these corporate bands that have held us back for so long. So we sharpened our baguettes, grabbed all the overpriced product we could find and showed ownership what we’re capable of, which is dumping stuff into the road and then standing there. Yeah, it was pretty liberating.”

“Some of the rules and regulations we faced under this Starbucks regime,” tells another protester, “were destructive and prevented our pursuit of happiness in the workplace. Their long train of abuse of power even stretched to how we collected tips. OUR tips! We could only accept tips in the form of pennies, nickles, dimes and cash after they instituted their outlandish “No Quarter” policy. We all disagreed with it and staged a protest that would’ve made The Sons of Liberty, Tim Adams and Saul Revere, very proud,” finished the protester, who was obviously an entry-level Starbucks employee.

Signs of protest and dissension have been swirling around the coffee chain for sometime now. Even mainstream America was up in arms about the Red Coating on the outside of Starbucks Christmas cups last December. As tensions boil over, it seems the list of grievances are growing fast, as protester Patrick Henry pointed out.  “This company and its management have become nothing short of tyrants. Our general manager, Keith George, didn’t even let us fill out our own I-9 forms at time of hire. My W-2 had all kinds of taxes and deductions I hadn’t even heard of before and the company provided no HR representation to help explain it to us. I mean, I understand you have a strict tattoo policy but why are we all paying a tramp stamp tax?”

Some of the disbanded protesters have announced plans to leave their former employer and start their own coffee shop. The location has yet to be determined, but they have their eyes set on the spot currently occupied by The Curry House Indian Restaurant. One of the men, Jared Tetley, stated, “We love that location and I’m sure we could work out a ‘deal’ to make it ours. And once we get it up and running, the owners of the Curry House will be the first names on our reservation list and be treated like it’s their own home.”

Jim Gray Forced To Call Pop-A-Lock After Losing The Key To The City

By: Harold Leeder

July 1, 2016

Former Vice Mayor Jim Gray, who was out on the campaign trail yesterday, was forced to call Pop-A-Lock after misplacing the key to the city…again. The gaffe left Gray, who’s currently running for state Senate, stranded in Nicholasville for nearly three hours before Pop-A-Lock arrived and resolved the issue. Gray was wrapping up campaigning at Jessamine County’s newest “hot spot” Brannon Crossing, after spending the day hitting the long campaign trail from the Nicholasville Library to Big Boy (the one in Nicholasville) to The Boot Store (also in Nicholasville).

“After an entire day of campaigning across the great county of Jessamine,” tells Gray, “I met up with some of my friends at Movie Tavern to see The Conjuring 2. But right when things started conjuring, I noticed I didn’t have the key to the city in my pocket anymore and would be locked out of Lexington…again.”

Gray says he then started frantically searching for his precious key and retracing his steps. However, this proved to be futile since he’d spent the whole day traveling the vast lands of Nicholasville.

“I thought I had left an extra one under the mat at Cracker Barrel but it wasn’t there. I then tried calling former mayor Theresa Isaac. She still has a spare but I hate bugging her with stuff like this all the time. It was just last week that I had to call her for help remembering the code on the garage door keypad. How am I supposed to remember which Lexington zip code is my password when there’s like 30 different ones or however many there are?”

With former mayor Theresa Isaac on vacation and unable to bring him the spare, it was Pop-A-Lock guru Dale Burns who was the first responder on the scene to assist Gray.

“I got there as quickly as I could but didn’t make any special effort to speed or anything just because it was our mayor,” says Burns. “We here at Pop-A-Lock take a lot of pride in being a non-partisan locksmith. Plus, it was the third time this month he’s called us. Few weeks ago he got stuck in Versailles when he dropped his key to the city in the moat at The Castle. His assistant said he had it out again, twirling it around his finger like a bigshot.”

With Pop-A-Lock having a master copy, they had no problem Conjuring 2 new keys and helping Gray get back into Lexington. Jim noted, “The fine folks at Pop-A-Lock are a great example of how essential small businesses are to our community. They are quick and affordable. I’d love to see them be able to expand to other cities in our state such as Louisville. When I lost my keys there a few months ago, I had to call the Papa-Lock John Schnatter and while they did arrive in 30 minutes or less, their prices were very unreasonable and the keys were covered in garlic sauce.”

Saul Smith Still Trying To Convince Everyone That “Saul Good Restaurant” Was His Idea

By: Harold Leeder

June 30, 2016

Former UK point guard and recent winner of world’s worst haircut, Saul Smith, was recently seen back in Lexington. Saul Smith traveled back to Kentucky to celebrate the marriage of his brother, the former winner of The Voice Jordan Smith. We caught up with Saul during the reception to find out just what he’s been up to since graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2001.

“I’ve been hanging out with my dad coaching some college ball, but my real passion is venture capitalism. I think every day is a search for that next great idea. The next great idea that I’ll have could be right around the corner,” said Smith, currently an assistant basketball coach at the University of Memphis.

“If there’s one thing Saul doesn’t do it’s pass,” he continued in third person. “Saul sees an opportunity and takes his shot, like he did with that restaurant back in 2000.”

Saul Smith has been claiming he created Saul Good Restaurant & Pub since it opened without his involvement in 2008.  We contacted the current owners of Saul Good Restaurant & Pub, and they confirmed the only involvement Saul Smith had, was inspiring an apple turnover which was only available briefly, and was widely disliked by patrons.

The son of highly regarded coach Tubby Smith continued to back his claims with very unsubstantiated tales. “You see, I’m Saul and I’m good, and that’s what UK fans always used to yell at me when I walked around campus or when I crushed it during games. ‘Saul Good is what you are, at both basketball and talking to ladies’. If I had a dime for every time I heard that being chanted at a UK basketball game, I’d have way more dimes than I dropped at UK.”

Saul Good Restaurant & Pub is now operating at 3 locations in Lexington, and is known for offering a casual and classy atmosphere, which Saul Smith says is really what he’s all about.

“My whole style is casual and classy, that’s why it’s ‘Saul Good’ man.The restaurant business is like everything else in my life. I came, I Saul, I conquered. That’s why I’m always changing what school I’m an assistant coach for.”

Smith claims he came up with the idea shortly after former UK basketball superstar Kenny “Sky” Walker approached him with his idea for penthouse lounge SkyBar. Smith also claims he was the inspiration for the hit AMC television show Better Call Saul, as well as water Saul-uble vitamins.

Harold’s Choice Winners Announced And They Weren’t Yours

By: Harold Leeder

June 29, 2016

The results are in for the first ever Harold Leeder’s Choice Awards! While we do appreciate everyone voting, these were technically “my choices”. I’ve posted the readers results at the bottom because my wife made me but the real winners are my choice and Ruth will only be printing up the certificates she made on Microsoft Paint for my picks.

2016 Harold Leeder’s Choice Awards Winners:

Category: Best Place To Get A Six-Pack
Harold’s Choice: Liquor Barn

liquor-barn

“I love Liquor Barn because if I see anyone I know, I can pretend to be shopping for some sort of specialty cheese instead of a gallon of Thunderbird wine and party hats. And quite frankly, you’d need a lot of Thunderbird to get me into a hot yoga class with Alan Cutler…..again.”

Category: Best Place To Catch A Flick
Harold’s Choice: Regal Cinemas

regal

“I love the leather recliners and I love that it’s not Movie Tavern. Any place that sends someone over every 5 minutes to interrupt my movie can rot in hell. And I personally have bad memories at Fayette Mall after seeing ‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’ there and sitting in front of Jerry Tipton during allergy season.”

Category: Biggest Waste Of Money
Harold’s Choice: Thoroughbred Park ($8 million)

thoroughbred

“While the Goodman boy’s haircut is a disaster, Thoroughbred Park cost us a few million dollars for some metal horses at a busy intersection. Millions of dollars and not one single roller coaster to ride? But for some strange reason, Ruth loves it. Can’t keep her off the #3 horse to save my life.”

Category: Best Place To Be Treated For Spasms
Harold’s Choice: Shaker Village

shaker

“I was down in Shaker Village a few years ago and bought one of those big Amish dressers they make for Ruth. While loading it into the ol’ station wagon, I threw my back out and things got weird. One of them big ol’ boys, Jebediah, picked me up off the ground, held me like a newborn baby and shook me until I couldn’t remember my name. It was weird but I didn’t have an issue with my back again (or large Mennonites picking me up). It’s also in my Top 5 favorite places to buy salt and pepper containers.”

Category: Best House Of Worship
Harold’s Choice: Waffle House

waffle

“For me, hashbrowns smothered and covered is as close to Heaven as I’ll ever get. Also, Ruth once saw Mary Magdalene in her waffle, so there’s that.”

Category: Best Band In Lexington
Harold’s Choice: The UK Marching Band

uk-band

“Any band that can pep me up after watching two quarters of UK football gets my vote.”
