JIF Peanut Butter Plant Mistaken for Bourbon Trail Distillery

By: Harold Leeder

March 1, 2018

A group of traveling executives from a distribution company outside of Chicago got lost on the bourbon trail and ended up at the JIF peanut butter plant. The troop, already weighed down with tote bags from Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve were too drunk to realize their mistake.

The grown men all identical in cargo shorts and lanyard sunglasses wobbled around the factory stopping to make observations about the craft of distillation.

“This sort of has a nutty flavor. Is that from the oak barrels?” asked one of the idiots. “Nothing like warming up over a fresh batch of sour mash,” said Senior Executive Phillip Kettleman as he spread his hands over a thousand gallon tank of roasted peanuts.

30 year JIF technician, Rupert Krakatoa wasn’t too put off by the invasion. “It’s not like I’ve never gotten drunk from a peanut butter jar.”

“This was President Jimmy Carters favorite drink.” Rupert explained to another one of the morons. “Would you like it on the rocks or neat?” he said gesturing at the Creamy or Crunchy jars.

The Vice President of the group was seen in the break room asking where he could find some club soda, furiously shaking a jar of JIF over a highball glass. Security at the plant narrowly avoided a complete shutdown by tackling one of the men who was about to pour a two liter of Diet Coke into a finished batch. “Anybody got a swizzle stick?” he yelled before impact.

They were all finally corralled out of the plant where they asked their Uber driver if they could finish their drinks in the car. All of the fools held up their cocktails garnished with celery sticks and raisins. “To George Washington Carver! Here! Here!”

Kentucky Teachers Too Busy Working At Big Lots to Organize Strike

By: Harold Leeder

February 28, 2018

The West Virginia teacher strike ended Tuesday after they managed to win a promised 5% raise. Kentucky teachers paid very close attention to the strike but mostly on their half-hour lunch break at Big Lots. Some of them only get a fifteen minute break because, between the school day, Academic team practice, and what passes for sleep, they can only work four hour shifts at their second job.

“I wish we had the energy for that,” said middle school science teacher Samantha Day as she pushed pallets of some-assembly-required furniture around the loading bay of the Big Lots she’s worked part-time at for twenty years. She got to rest for a moment when her manager, who was once her least promising student, asked her if she would mind trying to unclog the men’s room toilet.

Kentucky teachers’ union rep Dave Tohl sighed wistfully when he thought about the likelihood of teachers striking for higher wages in this state. “It’s not that we don’t want to,” he said. “It’s just that planning a strike takes a lot of time and Andrea called in sick at Big Lots today. I’m going to have to find a way to break it to my kid that I’m not going to his basketball game. Again. Now I have to get back to making sure these shelves are disorganized.”

“And even if we manage to pull off a strike there’s still a possibility of those substitute scabs,” said elementary school history teacher Michelle Watkins as she straightened a row of whimsical garden tools.

Kentucky teachers barely have time to work two jobs much less work for better working conditions at either. “Honestly, I didn’t even have time to put together a lesson plan for tomorrow,” said high school algebra teacher Jim Brookman as he held up a plastic wrapped DVD set of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. “I mean it’s literature, right?”

Teachers in some areas are affected with the yearning for enough time in the day to strike more heavily than others. The Pike County Board of Education met with Pike County Big Lots management this morning and agreed to construct a border wall between Kentucky and West Virginia so that their employees don’t try to move. It’s the first time in the history of either state that any educated person wished they lived in West Virginia.

Recent Flooding Raises Ticket Prices At Ark Encounter

By: Harold Leeder

February 26, 2018

Flood waters weren’t the only things that rose over the weekend. Ticket prices at the Ark Encounter in Grant County rose to $50. Ten dollars more than the usual $40 standard day pass.

The park’s website is also offering a new 40-day pass they are calling the ultimate Noah experience. For $3,000 thrill seeking home-schoolers can spend the same time spent in the ark as the Bible says Noah and his family did. “It’ll be like our apocalypse drills we practice at home,” says 13 yr old Elijah Macabee.

The 40-day pass includes “Cruise Ship Quality” meals. “Experience the flood the way God intended. With Style!” The ad goes on to say.

“Expect plenty of seafood,” says park founder Ken Ham, as he tosses another shrimp on a barbecue grill. We are in a corner of the Ark that houses animals specific to Ham’s native Australia. Pens are filled with Kangaroos, Koalas and the worlds most poisonous snakes. “Foster’s?” Ham offers a can of the Aussie beer to us as he slices the lid off of his own with the blade of an oversize bowie knife.

He tells us that much of the food will be catered in from Florence’s Outback Steakhouse. “The Applebees of Oceania.”

Many are appalled by the park’s price gouging while an actual flood is overtaking parts of the state it chose to call home. What is the reasoning behind the rising ticket prices?

“Blokes come in. Blokes go out. What can ya do?” is Ham’s response after swallowing a frothy gulp of Fosters. “Just grab another prawn off the sizzler.” Ham motions towards the shrimp on the grill.

“We’ll also have plenty of games for kids.” He explains that ‘Throw another shrimp on the barbie’ is not a reference to grilling. “It’s a game we have in Australia. Children get a bucket full of shrimp they toss at a wall of barbie dolls. Whoever knocks down the most barbies takes home the shrimp. We can charge about $15 a bucket. Unseasoned. $20 if you want them grilled and blackened.”

If you can’t afford the ticket price during the flooding or a life jacket Mr. Ham suggests grabbing the neck of a giraffe.

Yahoo Releases The FBI’s List Of Top 10 Most Poorly Paid College Athletes

By: Harold Leeder

February 23, 2018

Yahoo Sports, in a last-ditch effort to get its employees to stop asking Jeeves if Napster is hiring, released a confidential report they obtained from the FBI which shows one company’s cataloged payments to college basketball players. According to what we found out about it via google search, the list shows details of payments to basketball players, which range from 5 figure loans to fancy dinners at restaurants by the mall.

It appears that some of the payments were made directly to the players themselves, while others might have been made to family members. The defense attorney for a player to be named later, Darryl Isaacs, explained what this list means for the players named in legal terms, “I see right here where it says cash advance for Fred Van Fleet, sorry Fred you might find it hard to deny that one.” Isaacs’ eyes turned back to the document and he continued to look over the document with a fine tooth hammer, “Oh! But look here next to other players it lists vendors like PF Changs and Payless. I bet if you dug a little deeper into it I bet those were benefits for the player’s mother or maybe a close aunt. Ooooooooooh where’d they find a Boston Market?”

The list included both current and former student-athletes. While most were basketball players at major universities, Yahoo decided to included BAM Margera on the list for some reason. Possibly because we were all still into skateboarding videos the last time we visited the website.

While some fans are concerned about player’s eligibility, other fans believe this is not a big deal. But the one thing that fans of all teams mentioned know for sure, their password is probably compromised since they visited Yahoo.

Only 2 More Restaurants Have To Close Before Marikka’s Is Allowed To Reopen

By: Harold Leeder

February 22, 2018

Many remember its demolition last year during the city’s historically hard fought Volleyball Wars but Marikka’s Restaurant & Bier Stube has been rebuilt bigger and more volleyballer than ever and is ready to reopen at any moment. However, they have to wait for the green light from Lexington’s city council before reopening. “We’re way over our restaurant/beer garden quota right now, which we realize is unfair to Marikka’s who technically were the first to do both in town after the Sir Pizza that was there in 1991 was famously debased,” explained Fayette County’s Restaurant Czar Molly Phoudcorte.

She explained, “It’s really a matter of minutes until a couple more close. For example, we closed down the good Applebee’s (TGI Fridays) but we still have two normal Applebee’s operating here in town.”

Marikka’s new building will feature 6 volleyball courts, over 25,000 square feet of space, and a selection topping over 1,000 different beers to offer customers before they ultimately just decide to get a pitcher of Bud Light.

Many former Marikka’s customers have fond memories of the previous building, some with their names emboldened on the Hall of Fame above the dart boards. “I can’t wait to get back to not talking to girls there,” said one nervous Marikka’s Hall of Famer we spoke to who happened to just be standing outside of that auto place with the old 76 sign.

“I love this place as much as Germans love volleyball,” said pretty much everyone in town as we anxiously await its grand reopening.

White Smoke From Mt. Washington Means Bullitt County Has Elected A New Pope

By: Harold Leeder

February 21, 2018

Some 4,947 Cardinals fans entered their Mt. Washington conclave to elect a new Pope of Bullitt County yesterday. Mt. Washington, known for its dew, is also the home of Bullitt County’s official voting results chimney.

White smoke bloomed out at approximately 7:08 pm announcing to the world that Bullitt County had found their new pope. Former Price Is Right contestant and current Mayor Tim Slate explained, “Typically you’ll only see a lot of black smoke billowing out of this region, which has no real meaning other than someone gave up on retreading a tire, but today the smoke announces to the world, ‘Sorry about before!’”

The winner of the election is former educator Linda Belcher, which is in fact her real name and not something hilarious that we made up. She received the in-no-way mandatory two thirds majority vote to represent Bullitt County as pope and representative in the state’s General Assembly. Her duties include standard papal duties, in addition to making sure the state never approves a budget.

The white smoke announcing Bullitt County’s election results was seen around the world for the first time, although it’s hardly the first time for the community. Historically speaking, in order to produce the white smoke signifying the completion of the vote, Bullitt County has always used a glass pipe that was intended for “tobacco use only” that one resident who just goes by Darryl purchased in Daytona Beach. However, to announce the election results this time around, Mt. Washington updated their practice and now blows those sweet, sweet cotton clouds using an auxiliary smoke-emitting device provided by Vapal Infallibility, which is well known regionally for being consistently ranked in the top 20 vape shops of northeast Bullitt County.

As to how residents get the smoke from the chimney to billow out in Winter X Games white, it is hardly a secret. Slate told us, “You just wad up a Mountain Dew bottle wrapper and toss it on the fire.”

The new pope will be given the ceremonial extra tall trucker hat and will give all future speeches hanging out of their window.

Sleep Outfitters Has ‘Not Necessarily The Current But A President’s Day’ Sale

By: Harold Leeder

February 19, 2018

It’s a time honored American tradition that every February we take a day to honor America’s leaders by selling mattresses at outrageously low prices in their name. Sleep Outfitters has decided to continue this annual tradition, but, due to low approval ratings, have decided to specify that President’s Day does not necessarily refer to the current President, but any past president you like.

Sleep Outfitters manager Todd Dozeoff issued a statement saying, “Look, you don’t like Trump? That’s fine, these mattresses are on sale because of Obama. Hate Obama? Fine, these low, low prices are a way to honor Martin Van Buren, nobody has a problem with that guy. We haven’t had a lot of foot traffic yet, we’re not sure if that’s because of the President, or just because only people that work at banks or schools have today off. But we don’t want to take any chances so we felt like we needed to clarify that this is not about any president in particular.”

Dozeoff continued, “We’re just saying, the moment you start talking politics with someone the less likely you are going to be able to get them on a mattress. Look, we don’t care if you love the President, we just want you to love your ‘I love my pillow’ pillow. When the founding fathers put in the constitution that mattress sales would revolve around President’s Day the two current political parties hadn’t even been invented yet. So please, come on out and get a mattress.”

“We don’t want politics to play a big role in mattress sales,” added Dozeoff. The manager said he’d had an employee double check every mattress to make sure none of them had a Made in Russia tag. “There was no collusion,” said a flannel-clad kid known as ‘the Slumberjack’ as he hide a pair of scissors behind his back.

Before ending his press conference Dozeoff reiterated, “We don’t care who you voted for, we just want you to have a good night’s rest. We’re not trying to turn President’s Day into a political thing, we just want it to be the same 28 week holiday we’ve always acted like it was.”

Jim Gray Hasn’t Returned From Lunch But Put A Full Workday On His Timesheet

By: Harold Leeder

February 16, 2018

The Mayor’s office, while open and operating this dreary Friday afternoon, is a little more quiet than usual as Jim Gray still hasn’t returned from his lunch today. The former vice mayor’s absence comes as a surprise to many as Gray submitted his timesheet for this pay period without any leave requests, his office calendar had no availability this afternoon, and his Microsoft outlook status shows do not disturb.

“I’m not sure but I think he might have said, ‘Have a nice weekend,’ when he walked by me at the microwave,” said future former vice mayor Steve Kay as he turned his face away while removing the steamy plastic film from his Kid Cuisine Chicken Nugget Bug Safari Meal. “I mean, I guess he could be at a meeting, but who has meetings after 2 on a Friday?”

Kay wondered why the mayor wouldn’t be at the office, anyway. “He wouldn’t be skipping, it’s raining out, nothing fun to do,” he thought before calling Kentucky Theatre to ask if they had seen Gray, and then he asked the box office attendant how awesome Black Panther was.

“I think he should probably be saving his PTO for after he runs for congress,” said staffer Rory Flenderson.

Gray himself was unavailable for comment, or at least we assume he was, it’s already like 3 o’clock and we didn’t feel like calling anyone.

Lexington Holds World’s 1st ‘Can’t Anyone Drive in the Rain?’ Contest

By: Harold Leeder

February 15, 2018

The Lexington Streets & Roads Department held the world’s first “Can’t Anyone Drive in the Rain?” contest this morning. Poor motorists from all over the region flocked to the city to participate, although most of them were unaware of it, and were just late to work, as usual.

The contest was overseen by statisticians from the Federal Highway Administration as part of a nationwide study on road conditions. “Preliminary research quickly showed that Lexington was the best city in the world for terrible drivers, especially when it’s raining,” said Dr. Wilhelm Vanderbilt. “The capital of the sunken island of Atlantis was a distant second.”

All across the city drivers were judged based on the following criteria: somehow not seeing the lanes even though it was broad daylight, lack of adequate brake time, and yet driving too slowly as if their vehicles were built out of that witch from The Wizard of Oz.

Several obstacles, such as stalled garbage trucks, old ladies doing karate kicks and abandoned Speedway Speedy Freezes, were strategically placed throughout the test course, which was mostly based around Nicholasville Road but even extended to your very own driveway. Especially you Dan.

The contest results have not been announced yet, but according to traffic consultant Officer Don, officials are hopeful that this is the year that they finally find someone in this town that can drive in the rain.
