Less Than A Month After Electing A Fiscally Conservative House, Kentucky Headed To Taxslayer Bowl

By: Harold Leeder

December 5, 2016

Less than one month ago, on November 8th, Republicans took control of Kentucky’s House of Representatives for the first time in nearly a century. Sunday, 27 days after fiscal conservatives took control of the state’s exectuve and legislative branches, Kentucky, unsurprisingly, is headed to the Taxslayer bowl.

Governor Matt Bevin has been proposing tax cuts since he took office, Kentucky seems to have affirmed his plan both by electing a republican house and earning a bid in a bowl that calls not only to cut taxes, but to slay them.

When asked whether accepting an invitation to the Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville was a larger political statement coach Mark Stoops said, “to be honest, I thought it was just a bowl celebrating the band Slayer. I’m a huge Slayer-head, always have been. By the time I figured out it was TAXslayer it was too late, I’d already responded ‘accepted’ to the email and started blasting Raining Blood.”

It is clear that the Kentucky Football team has ignored the advice of all ‘stick to sports’ internet commenters and decided to use their first bowl game since 2011 to make a political statement. After all, nothing says having a conservative New Year’s Eve like Jacksonville, Florida.

Bevin Ditches His Own Lame Party To Attend Lamer One

After inviting all Kentucky families multiple times to the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Capitol followed by refreshments at the governor’s mansion, the “Great Mattsby” hosted an extravagant party for Kentucky debutantes and didn’t even participate. Instead, the Governor dashed out of Frankfort like a desperate 8th grade schoolgirl getting that long awaited call from the cool jock, and ditched his own family, constituents and party to speak at a Trump Rally in Ohio. The tree lighting ceremony still went on however, like a kid’s birthday party without his dad, who chose to go on a last minute golfing trip with his poker buddies instead.

In other news, Donald Trump is still holding rallies.

Guy From Accounting Beginning To Think Co-Workers Won’t Show Up To See His Cover Band Play At Parlay Social

By: Harold Leeder

December 1, 2016

While the accounting department isn’t always known for its ability to rock out with its excel doc out, Jeff Newcomb is looking to change that, if anyone actually decides to show up.

After putting the flyer up in the common area break room a month ago, Newcomb’s been hopeful that a lot of his colleagues will come out to see some “live music” when his cover band has their big debut at Parlay Social later this month.

However, as the date approaches, Newcomb has noticed that the event page he created on Facebook is losing a lot of numbers in the ‘interested’ category, and not gaining any people listed as ‘going’. “I mean I’ll try to make it, but I think it’s on a Wednesday night and I’m not sure I can get a sitter,” read the event page’s only comment, written by officemate Cam Hamilton, over three weeks ago.

Newcomb spoke to us at length about this new musical project ‘The Billies’, which decidedly will be a cover band devoted to playing covers of “Billy Joel, Billy Idol, and Will Oldham, then hopefully (crossing fingers) maybe a Billy Squier encore.” He claims that they’re not completely married to the Billy theme. “Todd, lead guitar, works downtown, and says we should learn a Wilson Phillips song to get the former vice mayor to come down to the show.”

Regardless of the direction of the cover band, Newcomb says that “after being in a band that played some originals, about 8 years ago” he’s just excited to be out there playing again. “I mean while it’s been forever since I even picked up a bass, it didn’t take very long to find the groove again” he waited for a laugh or smile that never came from the interviewer, “but the show’s gonna be rad man, we’ll even have some keys as long as Kevin gets off work in time.”

While Newcomb mentions he’s feeling a little nervous about the potential turnout, he’s still hopeful his co-workers will come out. “Danny in HR said he probably can’t make it, but he did like our band’s Facebook page, so who knows?”

Parlay Social, known as much for their hand made cocktails and prohibition era decor as they are for hosting live music four nights a week, was unaware of any bookings for ‘The Billies’ at press time.

Chris Goodman Steals The Pie That Bill Meck Left On Window Ledge To Cool

By: Harold Leeder

November 30, 2016

Tempers flared at LEX 18 yesterday afternoon when it was discovered that Chris Goodman was the culprit who stole the fresh baked rhubarb pie Bill Meck had placed on his window ledge to cool. Goodman, who got the idea while watching a marathon of Tom And Jerry cartoons over the Thanksgiving holiday, confessed to the crime after Meck caught him with rhubarb stains around his mouth during LEX 18 News At Noon.

“I know Chris typically overdoes it with the makeup before going on air,” Meck said, “but this time I noticed even more than usual around his lips. Once I got close enough, I realized that it wasn’t makeup at all, but instead the residue from my rhubarb pie.”

Meck got the recipe for the pie from coworker Steve Butera.

“I was really impressed with Steve’s Hot Brown recipe that I saw after election day,” Meck told us, “so I said ‘alright Stevie, what other culinary tricks do you have up your sleeve?'”

Goodman showed absolutely no remorse when confronted about the pie theft.

“My name may be Goodman, but when it comes to pies, I’m a bad boy.”

Jill Stein Files For Recount Of Score In Governor’s Cup

By: Harold Leeder

November 28, 2016

Former Presidential candidate Jill Stein, no seriously she was one, raised over 5 million dollars yesterday, thanks to a sizable donation from Papa John Schnatter, in order to fund a recount of the final score Saturday’s Governor’s Cup.

ACC game officials have been instructed to re-watch the amazing football game and double check for any scoring errors that would have potentially changed the outcome of the game. Cardinal fans have begun to protest the outcome of the game, despite it being over, and nothing is going to change the outcome, no matter how many times they say it was unfair. The fans and Jill Stein have demanded the recount amid the hope the officials will potentially find evidence of of hacked scoreboards, fraudulent fumbles, and inexplicably exceptional wide receiver play leading the Wildcats to an unexpected victory. Recount supporters are also relying on a late influx of absentee points and third down conversions coming in from overseas.

Stein a former Green Party candidate who claims to be a real doctor with a medical degree from Harvard, when we all know the internet told us that she was just a chiropractor, was somehow able to raise the 5 million dollars required to fund a recount of the game, while she herself was only able to raise 3.5 million dollars for her own Presidential campaign.

Stein claims that, like vaccinations, people have ‘real questions’ about the outcome of the University of Louisville’s loss to Kentucky, like whether or not the ACC should be considered a viable football conference, or why anyone, including the people of Las Vegas, would have considered Kentucky a 4 touchdown underdog to them.  “I’m told Coach Petrino loves to ride bikes as much as I do, and wherever there is someone who’s willing to admit that they like to ride bikes, I try my best to help them,” said Stein.

Stein’s brother Frank N., who also claims to be a doctor, agreed with his sister’s petition for a recount.  He explained, “There must have been an error on the scoreboard, or something! I mean why else would Lamar Jackson celebrate with the Heisman pose if that touchdown had merely set them up to tie the game at 38? That’s a we just won the game celebration, so clearly the scoreboard must have been broken or something.”

Pieratt’s Slips Into Parallel Universe After They Cannot Beat Their Own Black Friday Prices

By: Harold Leeder

November 25, 2016

In a sad turn of events, local retailer Pieratt’s has apparently lost its Nicholasville Road store to some type of supernatural phenomenon on this Black Friday. The company slogan, “Nobody Beats Pieratt’s!”, caught up to them around 8:15am this morning after the Mount Tabor Road location could not beat the prices set forth at the Nicholasville Road location, causing a tear in the space-time continuum and thus sending the Nicholasville Road store spiraling into a parallel universe, leaving nothing behind except a big, Black Friday Hole.

“We’re supposed to have the same unbeatable prices!,” pleaded Mount Tabor’s location manager Dave Levinson, “but Cooper, the manager over on Nicholasville Road, got carried away and made his prices so low, I simply COULD NOT BEAT THEM. I mean, $129 for 50” inch flatscreen? How could he be so careless?!”

Sources say a customer brought the extremely low TV prices to the attention of the sales staff at Mount Tabor, prompting Levinson to call over to the Nicholasville Road store. From there, eye witnesses say Levinson became visibly upset, shouting into the phone “you did what?!” and “in the handbook it clearly says a Pieratt’s divided against itself cannot stand!”

One eyewitness, Neil deGrasse Tyson, said what happened next was chilling.

“Yeah, one minute he was yelling at him but then he started losing the connection or something. Started screaming, “nooooooooooo!” and “Cooper?! Cooper?! Are you there?!” But it was too late. The moment Cooper set those prices at a point this location could not beat, he had already set forth a chain of events that caused his store to slip into a parallel universe. Go look at their website, the store is already fading away like Marty McFly in a family photo.”

After 70 years of “nobody beating Pieratt’s”, it appears Pieratt’s has beat themselves. And while the loss of the long-time local business is unfortunate, the biggest tragedy resulting from the supernatural event, which created a Black Friday Hole, is now Lexington has two big holes in it.

Morgan & Morgan’s John Morgan Ends 8 Minute Dinner Blessing With “For The People”

By: Harold Leeder

November 24, 2016

While members of the Morgan family weren’t surprised by the length of the elaborate blessing given by the law firms founder, John Morgan, at the family’s Thanksgiving feast, everyone was clearly caught off guard when Morgan abruptly ended it with, “for the people”, instead of the more traditional prayer closer, “Amen.” Sources say the prayer was a real rollercoaster ride, covering everything from blessing the hands that prepared the food to stories of Morgan listening to UK games on the radio in his dad’s hot car with the windows rolled up and no AC, which is perfectly legal in his home state of Florida.

“None of us were exactly sure what his old childhood stories had to do with Thanksgiving dinner,” said one anonymous Morgan son whose name totally isn’t Dan Morgan, “then again, those stories don’t have anything to do with practicing law either, but that doesn’t stop him from adding them to his radio ads, which are totally not the worst thing airing on the radio.”

John Morgan, who is a huge proponent for the legalization of medical marijuana, spent most the dinner and dessert time telling stories of yesteryear to his wife, kids and son’s girlfriend Ashley. However, at one point, everyone around the table, Morgan and Morgan and Morgan and Morgan and Ashley, had dozed off. “My family loves my stories,” Morgan assured the press, “but between how hard we work ‘for the people’ and all that tryptophan in the turkey, guess that’ll make anyone tired.”

Morgan also insisted the brownies he baked, which made everyone hungry for seconds, were completely normal. “Brownies have a bunch of tryptophan in them too.”

Vice Mayor Steve Kay “Wasn’t Offended” By Children’s Theatre Cast

By: Harold Leeder

November 21, 2016

The cast of the Lexington Children’s Theatre hosted a special guest over the weekend as future former vice mayor Steve Kay stopped by the theatre to take in Alice in Wonderland. Everything went as planned until the cast returned to the stage after the show was over and decided to address the future former vice mayor by name. Kay wasn’t recognized as the city’s future former vice mayor when he entered since no one really knows who the vice mayor is or what that title really means, instead he was identified when some parents started asking questions about the lone adult sitting by himself in a children’s theatre. Kay justified it by saying “my mom says that inside I’m just a little boy.” Kay then took Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne action figures from his pockets and started smacking them against each other and making laser sounds. Security was too thrown off by this response to ask any further questions.

The cast returned to the stage at the end of the performance to take their final bows and then began to address Mr. Kay, who was loudly chanting “Encore, Encore” unaccompanied. “We are the diverse Lexington,” the cast of adult actors that perform exclusively for the undiscerning audiences of children began. “We are concerned about your administration’s commitments to education and the arts. We hope this performance inspires you to…” the speech was abruptly interrupted when Mr. Kay pressed his mouth into his hands and created a booming fart noise. Kay then began laughing uncontrollably and rolled himself out of his chair (which he was seated cross-legged in) and fell to the ground.

As the crowd filed out of the theater one of the children in attendance told us “I thought it was very powerful the way that the cast respectfully voiced their concerns to the vice mayor.” “I thought it was interesting when the gardeners had to paint the white roses red. It made me think about how in today’s political climate you can’t always be who you are without fear of repercussions” said another. “I liked the cat,” Kay said.

Ryan Lemond Ignores Burn Ban; Continues Burning CDs For Alan Cutler

By: Harold Leeder

November 18, 2016

Fayette County is the latest to join a long list of Kentucky counties currently under a burn ban, but that hasn’t deterred Kentucky Sports Radio co-host Ryan Lemond from continuing a favorite hobby of his, burning CDs for his long-time friend, mustachioed hot yoga fanatic Alan Cutler.

Despite the seriousness of the burn ban, Lemond was spotted Thursday morning in the alley behind Tolly Ho handing Cutler his latest musical creation, Ryan’s Chill Mix: Volume Two.

“Cutler asked for all Yanni and Enya songs, but Ryan mostly put Darius Rucker deep tracks on there,” a source that totally wasn’t Shannon The Dude told us.

Lemond and Cutler, the only two people in Lexington still listening to CDs, began their arrangement in 2009, when Cutler’s Sony Walkman fell out of his pocket during his chase of Billy Gillispie, shattering the Gregorian Chant CD he had inside. Lemond replaced the CD in exchange for some of Cutler’s mustache clippings, and that agreement has continued ever since.

It’s still unclear when the burn ban will be lifted, or when Lemond and Cutler will just upgrade to Spotify, but the latter isn’t likely to occur any time soon, as Cutler can’t figure out how to download the app onto his flip phone.

Kentucky Hopeful Matt Bevin Is Offered A Position In Donald Trump’s Cabinet

By: Harold Leeder

November 17, 2016

President-elect Donald Trump has found his transition to the White House filled with fighting, firings, poorly executed product placement and all the other major plot points of an episode of The Apprentice. While the task is difficult, almost as difficult as actually being the President of the United States of America, Trump is determined to assemble his team of leaders of the new administration sooner rather than later.

Trump apparently is taking this whole becoming President thing pretty seriously. Like any real life President, he is asking those he trusts to serve the country from his cabinet, and is running out of names in his rolodex that aren’t followed by a hyphen and the phrase known racist.

While the roles of White House Chief of Staff and Chief Strategist have been assigned, and Secretary of State likely to be offered to Dennis Rodman, the remaining 17 positions are pretty up in the air. Many here in Kentucky are hopeful that one of the remaining positions would be a good fit for current governor Matt Bevin.

Even if it wasn’t a good fit, just merely the notion that Trump would consider it to be a good fit, would be enough for many Kentuckians, as when the President calls you to serve, it’s not something you decline.

There are rumors of an online petition that was created shortly after this article was published that is asking Trump to consider Governor Bevin for Agricultural Secretary, or really any position his highness sees fit. Agricultural Secretary seems the most logical as it’s duties probably have something to do with farming and we have those here.

E.P.A. Administrator would also be a good fit for Governor Bevin, as Trump hopes to dismantle it, and Bevin has extensive experience with dismantling important government programs.

“Really just anything to get him out of the Governor’s mansion,” said pretty much everyone.
