Trump Calls Dan Cummins For Advice On Paris Climate Deal

By: Harold Leeder

June 1, 2017

Donald Trump spent much of his presidential campaign and countrywide hat selling tour talking about ways to put “America First” by forcing other countries to pull their weight in deals with the United States. The President seems to be taking the first steps toward enacting his campaign rhetoric as he debates withdrawing from the ‘Paris Climate Deal;’ a deal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions signed by nearly every nation in the world, and every planet in the solar system (including Neptune which, frankly, could use some greenhouse gases). The United States would join only Syria and Nicaragua as countries that have not signed on to the agreement. However, before he makes any decisions, the President decided to consult an expert on Paris deals, Kentucky’s own Dan Cummins.

“I’m not a scientist or anything, but I kept telling him, ‘I don’t think you should walk away from this deal buddy, I don’t know the in’s and out’s of this but I can tell you that personally, I’d rather drive to Paris for any kind of deal,” Cummins said. “He kept asking, ‘are you sure?’ ‘I don’t know, I think we should withdraw.’ I said, ‘listen, let me tell you one more time exactly how I feel.'”

“I sell cars man. You want some sort of Paris climate change deal come on down, we’ve got cars with heat and A/C.” Cummins then spent the next fifteen minutes trying to sell us a 2014 Chevy Cruze.

After the call to Cummins a few other Kentuckians are expecting calls for advice on this move. “As soon as I heard talk of the President pulling out I grabbed my phone and waited for a call, kind of an expert on these things,” Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino said.

Matt Bevin Now Using Facebook Live Press Conferences To Sell Discounted Ray Bans

By: Harold Leeder

May 31, 2017

The most instagrammed governor in Kentucky’s history currently has a social media presence topping out at an all time high, and he’s decided it’s about time he took advantage of it. One of Governor Matt Bevin’s most recent Facebook videos, a roast of Kentucky’s news media, landed him over 1 million views. The video, while devoid of any solid jokes or catchphrases, still outperformed every other video he has shared, including the one where he called for lawmakers to get to work on a state budget.

However popular the videos have become, the governor explained that not unlike this publication, he’s has had a hard time monetizing his popularity, “Sure the people of Kentucky love me and my social media presence, but that doesn’t pay for all the houses I may or may not live in.”

So the governor has decided to start using his social media platforms to offer Kentuckians a special offer on Ray Ban sunglasses. “Look, it’s my job to help the taxpayers here in Kentucky and it’s my job to make sure the constituents look cool as hell. Is it not then also my responsibility to show people where they can get a great price on Ray Bans,” Bevin asked as he typed names off a census report tagging most of the state in his most recent post.

The governor continued, “When Beshear was in charge he would just come out here and answer your questions about cool factories he had lost the funding for or whatever, but how many shades did that guy sell? Probably like 0.”

In his most recent post, titled ‘Sunset Sale’, the governor is speaking in front of a green screen that projects alternating vacation scenes behind him, as a midi version of Elton John’s “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” plays softly behind his boisterous sales pitch. “My fellow Kentuckians, where I live is no one’s business, but getting you a discounted rate on some great sunglasses is my business.” “While my boy, Donald Trump, is out there trying his best to ban muslims, we’re back here literally banning the RAYS FROM THE FREAKIN’ SUN.”

Tim Tebow Emerges Again From The Dugout After Three Strikeouts

By: Harold Leeder

May 26, 2017

Interest in the Lexington Legends is expected to spike this weekend when former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow visits Lexington on his quest to become an NFL quarterback by playing minor league baseball. Fans have purchased tickets in droves for this weekend’s games hoping they will finally see Tim Tebow lose in Lexington.

The anticipation for Tebow’s visit was at a fever pitch yesterday, but the city was prepared. The Mariott, where the Legend’s opponents usually stay, ordered extra Gideon bibles, and Whitaker Bank Ballpark filled their concession stands with wine and crackers. Even the hot dog vendors traded in their usual stock for a couple of fish and five loaves of bread. Centrepointe developer Dudley Webb promised to have a hotel ready downtown in time for the games.

When Tebow arrived (riding on a donkey due to Single A budget restrictions) he was escorted into the ballpark where he immediately began flipping tables in the gift shop and driving out all who were buying and selling there.

After a (in no way surprising) hit-less night on Thursday, fans will only have a few more chances this weekend (but at least 7 more chances this year) to see the former Florida star roll back the stone and emerge from the dugout after his third strikeout.

After his fourth hit-less at bat, a frustrated Tebow covered his face with a towel. A young fan was able to snag the towel and donated it to the Legends. The Shroud Of Lexington will be displayed for the rest of the season showing the rough outline of Tebow’s face.

The Legends have prepared in-game entertainment centered around Tebow as well. Anytime Tebow strikes out (or is denied three times by the pitcher) the Legends will play a loud rooster crow. They have also moved the visiting team’s on-deck circle closer to the stands so local lepers will have a chance to reach out and touch the former quarterback in hopes of being cured.

Rumors that Tebow would pinch preach at Christ The King on Sunday could not be confirmed.

Legends management is attempting to maintain this unprecedented level of interest by recruiting Jay Cutler or Tony Romo to the Augusta Greenjackets in time for next weekend’s games.

Entire City Falls Asleep Waiting For One Kid To Text Us When They’ll Be Home

By: Harold Leeder

May 25, 2017

Last night Lexingtonians were up all night awaiting a tweet, a text, a call, carrier pigeon, anything from current favorite son Hamidou Diallo. While passenger pigeons have been extinct since 1914, he should have found a way to let us know he was planning on coming home.

“As long as you’re gonna live under our roof and go to this school, there are rules you’re gonna follow mister,” explained disappointed father figure and former vice mayor Jim Gray. Specifically the NCAA has rules Diallo was following yesterday, as he was deciding on whether or not he’d come back to Lexington, or stay the night at his friend’s house, NBA Draft.

Gray added, “We were worried sick about you son. The city isn’t asking for much here, we just wanna know if you’re okay, and what time we should expect you home, but don’t make us stay up all night with worry Hami. A text takes 10 seconds, you don’t have 10 seconds?”

Diallo apologized to the city early this morning, and promised that he won’t let it happen again, as next time he goes over there he’s definitely staying.

FCPS Graduates A Record Number Thanks To “Everyone Gets A Diploma Generation”

By: Harold Leeder

May 24, 2017

Today and tomorrow Rupp Arena will welcome a record number of Fayette County High School Graduates, as more than 2,600 high school seniors will be receiving diplomas, because in this day in age, who doesn’t. “It’s day and age,” argued graduating Senior Alex Zimmerman, “and we’re receiving diplomas because we earned them, just like your generation did.”

It’s well documented that this group of snowflake seniors floated through a curriculum of “New Math” and a veritable absence of “Old English.” As though this wasn’t enough we’re told that Physics classes at Dunbar even spent a lot of time teaching “Theoretical Physics” rather than actual physics. We’re assuming this is just to make it easier under the guise of making things politically correct. “Hey let’s not offend anyone that knows stuff about actual physics,” we assume whoever plans out science classes said to the teachers.

My neighbor, and renowned “Diploma Truther” Winston Johnson, is troubled by the current state of education here in central Kentucky, “When we were in school students had to learn and navigate formulas on how to find the volume of a cube or a cylinder, now they can just turn it up or down with a button on their phone.”

If things weren’t bad enough, this year some diplomas will be adorned with a seal that indicates when certain students are literate in English and another language. When I told Winston, he basically responded with what we were all thinking, “And how come there’s no seal of approval for students that can speak American?”

Even that Zimmerman kid had reservations with the record number of graduates this year, “I know that my family is very proud of me as they’ve always been there for me and never been anything less than 100% supportive. However, when I’ve asked if they’re excited about today, you can tell they’re just smiling through their teeth as I don’t think they’re looking forward to the ceremony at Rupp.”

Good News, None Of You Have To Watch The Belmont

By: Harold Leeder

May 22, 2017

As Cloud Computing and Classic Empire battled down the stretch, and Always Dreaming trotted its way into springtime obscurity, many celebrated the real winner of the Preakness, June 10th. Always Dreaming finished The Preakness somewhere that wasn’t first place on Saturday, which allowed the country to collectively exhale and stop caring about horse racing until next May. Now, none of us will have to watch or pretend to care about The Belmont as Always Dreaming and Cloud Computing duke it out for a shot at the less celebrated “double crown.”

A few Lexington residents told us about their relief. “Don’t get me wrong, I love going to Keeneland and the Derby is super huge,” explained local day drinker Jessica Harland, “but when you can’t like see the actual horses walk around the track, or smell them walk around the paddock, then what are we even doing people.”

“We’re from horse country,” said Todd Livingston, a Lexington resident that likes to bet on horses based on their name. “We’re supposed to care about horse racing all the time. But a lot of times it’s exhausting. It’s just a relief that I won’t have to field phone calls and text messages from my friends from out of state asking me my ‘expert’ opinion on a horse race in New York.”

Vice President Mike Pence Already Regretting Giving Matt Bevin His Cell Number

By: Harold Leeder

May 19, 2017

As Vice President Mike Pence drops off a large stack of paperwork in the oval office for his boss to look over, one can’t help but notice his suit jacket breast pocket keeps singing the start of a familiar chorus, “And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free,” and then repeats a few times before going silent again.

“Never a dull moment,” Pence laughs as he picks up a napkin and a coffee tumbler from the desk, and his pocket begins to sing that classic Lee Greenwood song once again. He tucks the remnants of what we will assume was the President’s breakfast under his arm and reaches into his breast pocket and the song becomes louder. He shows us his phone’s display, UNKNOWN CALLER, and he quickly answers it on speaker, “”This is Governo…. Vice President Mike Pence, I have you on speaker.”

The Vice President explains that he always answers unknown numbers on speakerphone, especially when his wife is nearby, just so everyone knows the calls are above board. “Yes, I’m quite happy with my cable provider, why do you ask,” the Vice President happy to oblige the caller with a 4 minute conversation about the benefits of satellite television, before he disconnects the call, “no problem call back anytime Tony.”

“I’m totally addicted to this thing,” Pence holds his 3rd generation iPhone up, “I’m just like most kids today I guess.  I mean, I’m told I can totally relate to the youth of America, because I’m always on this darn thing.”

Another unknown number, “Go for Pence,” shortly followed by another, “You got the backup here on speaker.” His phone never stops ringing during our 15 minute conversation, and he answers every call with patience and aplomb, that is until the screen reads “Matt Bevin Cell.”

“Hey would you like to see where they filmed the West Wing,” he asks us before opening the door to the hallway. Just as Lee Greenwood sings again, the Vice President silences his phone, “seriously, I’m told Rob Lowe once stood right over here.”

The Vice President lead us out into the hall and explained, “Oh man I loved that show, I didn’t really get all of it because they talked so fast, but all those episodes were interesting right? Let’s walk and talk like they did.”

With Pence opening the line of communication we asked, “Sir, why aren’t you answering Governor Bevin?”

The Vice President’s face began to turn red, “Oh man, I met Matt a while back, nice guy, but for a long time I only had to take him in small doses.  I gave him my number yesterday after a meeting, and now he calls all the time, just wanting to chat and the guy never has anything to say. I’ll say ‘Hey Matt what’s goin’ on?’ Then he’ll just be like, ‘Nothin’ much, just driving home, talking to you on the phone,’ it’s like c’mon man!”

The future interim President began to calm down once again, and asked a staffer if they ever met Aaron Sorkin. Then his phone began to sing once again. This time removed it from his pocket, and an expression of complicated emotion came across his face. The phone displayed a number, with no name associated with it, but began with a 502 area code. Deep down you could tell he wanted to answer the call, just in case the President was calling him for some help on a policy issue from a payphone, or someone else had some interesting information on satellite television, but the source of his struggle became apparent when he explained, “Matt has several burner phones, like on Breaking Bad, and he calls me from those.”

The future former Vice President begrudgingly answered the 502 phone call and grimaced as he heard “Hey it’s Bevs” through the speaker. Pence held the phone away from his face and yelled “Whoops” just before he hung up the phone, asked a staffer to figure out how to block that number and walked briskly into the hallway restroom.

We didn’t feel like it was appropriate to follow him in there.

Report: Reason For New Circle Lane Closure Was To Make You Miss Your Child’s T-Ball Game

By: Harold Leeder

May 18, 2017

In a recent effort to simply “get parents to stop supporting their children participating in sports or the arts or any other after-school activity,” the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has decided to start randomly closing lanes on the outer loop of New Circle Road over the last month.

A statement from the Transportation Cabinet explained that usually they try and alert drivers of upcoming lane closures that they know will have dramatic impact on commuters travel times. However, over the last month or so they decided to “keep the alerts to a minimum, so that lane closures would just sort of pop up without warning, just past an exit that commuters could have gotten off on, in order to drive a different way to their destination.”

One might expect that these lane closures would be for a construction project of some kind, “I thought they were closing the lanes for repaving or fixing a guardrail or something,” said our own traffic reporter Officer Donna.

“Nope,” answered the Transportation Cabinet, “we don’t plan on improving New Circle Road in any way, we just want to frustrate commuters and fracture familial relationships by making commuters later than they already are. Hopefully we can get parents to not just be late to events like dance recitals or T-ball games, but rather miss them entirely.”

Trendsetter Joe B. Hall Won’t Be The Only Man Wearing A Romper At The Pool This Year

By: Harold Leeder

May 17, 2017

Former University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball Coach Joe B. Hall made waves earlier this week, both in the pool (signature cannonball) and in the world of menswear. The fashion forward former Coach has been spotted wearing a onezie around Lexington’s public pools since 1948, it seems likely that this summer his look may finally catch on. GQ, Esquire and other publications that follow men’s trends closely confirmed that the Male Romper was here for the summer.

“This thing is great,” the legendary coach said. “I love it, it’s laid back, easy to wear, casual, cool in the summer. Maybe the new ones will have pockets, they can design anything nowadays with the computer!”

One of the issues with rompers, as women who’ve worn them for years can attest, is it makes using the restroom difficult to say the least but the addition of the zipper fly has solved the number one problem for men. When asked about the ease of use, Coach Hall said “can you go to the bathroom? well, you can but they don’t really like you doing that in the pool. Hot tub is fair game as far as I’m concerned though, bacteria can’t survive in there.”

LEX18 Sports Coverage Will Be Broadcast On Delay Due To Dorian Craft Beer Week

By: Harold Leeder

May 15, 2017

Every year Lexington’s finest brewers spend all their time preparing themselves for this, the third week in May, Dorian Craft Beer Week.  Now in it’s third year, this event has added even more new vendors and events, and this year promises to be even bigger than the last.

The timeline itself for Dorian Craft Beer week has even been expanded this year. While “Craft Beer Week” is celebrated across America, from May 15-21, LEX18 Sports Anchor Dorian Craft has decided that this year her own personal celebration of all things beer started on Friday.  “Lexington has really expanded its brewing market, and it seems a new shop is opening here in town every month, and for 10 days a year Dorian Craft is determined to try them all,” the anchor explained in third person.

“Craft beer isn’t for everyone, you literally need my palate to enjoy it,” she explained, “so why not give back to the Lexington beer scene, by drinking everything they’ve got.”

While many of Lexington’s vendors enjoy her weeklong celebration of all things beer, news station LEX18 has learned its lesson of the last few years, and understand that letting an unedited Craft on air can be dangerous during her 10 day festival of ales, and have decided to broadcast all of their sports coverage on a 7 second delay, to account for any last minute edits that may need to take place.

Craft’s co-worker Keith Farmer explained how the standard beer week unfolds, “She’s pretty good for the first few days, but by Thursday you’ll see some hiccups, which lead to giggles, and before you know it she’s live on air yelling quotes from Training Day.”
