Johnny Depp Becomes The First Person To Not Profit Off A Horse Farm In Kentucky

By: Harold Leeder

September 18, 2017

In order to stop hemorrhaging money Johnny Depp, once the world’s highest paid actor, has been selling off his assets as quickly as possible. The man who once portrayed Edward Scissorhands is having to deal with cutting losses instead of hedges. Now, Captain Jack Sparrow is having to plug holes on the sinking ship that is his bank account, which led to Depp unsuccessfully attempting to put his horse farm on Versailles road up for auction.

“Here’s the thing, if you’re trying to stop losing money the last thing you’d wanna sell is a horse farm,” said champion horse breeder Raoul Duke. “I guess I can see how he lost it all if can’t make money growin’ horses here in Kentucky.”

Depp’s personal financial manager Glen Lantz disagrees, “Look my client has come up against some hard times, and we’re not sure how many more times we can make a Pirates of The Caribbean movie. I think his character has hit all the islands down there at this point.”

“More like Johnny Debt,” snickered Tom Hanson, a nearby auction-watcher who would never be able to afford a horse farm of any sort but still enjoyed watching the sale of the farm fail. “Disney prints their own money basically, so if you’re the star of a Disney movie based on my favorite ride from Disneyworld and you’re still having to sell off assets, well, that’s the only type of person I could see struggling to make money off a horse farm in the horse capitol of the world.”

Before Hanson left, he looked over each shoulder and said in a hushed tone, “I’ll be honest, when I showed up here I wasn’t even expecting it to be a horse farm. From looking at all pictures of this Depp fellow in US Weekly , I assumed this guy had figured out how to grow scarves and leather bracelets, this whole horse thing is kind of a let down to be honest.”

Vegas Can’t Be Beaten But Christ The King’s Oktoberfest Can

By: Harold Leeder

September 15, 2017

Enough’s enough, we couldn’t wait any longer, so tonight marks the beginning of the weekend-long Christ The King Oktoberfest Celebration in Lexington. As one of the largest church-sponsored gambling events in the city, the occasion draws interest from many citizens and sponsorship from many of Lexington’s finer businesses and Alltech.  Christ The King’s Oktoberfest celebration brings both the parish and the community together to raise awareness and financial support for their school and outreach programs.  Long time sponsor, Alltech Lexington Brewing Company, gets into the spirit of the event every year by performing a miracle of their own, as they turn water into beer that tastes like water. Before you go out to celebrate this weekend, make sure to check out these tips so you’re ready to beat the house, God’s house, during Oktoberfest:

  • Remember the money you spend at Oktoberfest is not tax deductible so only lose the money your wife gave you when you got there. Do not go to the ATM and then immediately buy pull tabs for everyone in line, thinking you can “write it off.”
  • Spend the extra 2 dollars on the big commemorative cup. If you play your cards right, you can convince the pit boss in the blackjack room to keep refilling it while you yell at some stranger next to you for splitting queens.
  • Whatever you do, don’t buy a calendar while you’re there. They have no idea what month it is.
  • Anytime someone asks you to pay for something lean in and whisper, “Maybe you knew this because of my wonderful smile, but I’m with Buchart Orthodontics.” You never know they might not charge you.
  • Wear a members only jacket, this will let the staff know you’re a member of the church and will thereby allow you access inside the building where you can use much nicer bathrooms.
  • Only make the joke calling someone a ‘Germany-aphobe’ once at most. Pick your moment.
  • Parking nearby is always limited so plan ahead by parking at a not-so-nearby Kroger on Chinoe or Euclid, and just drive one of their complimentary motorized carts over to the Church.
  • Make sure to go to the silent auction and watch at how fast the auctioneer is at sign language.
  • Slip Blessed Union Of Souls a handful of pulltabs and ask them to play that “She Likes Me For Me” song first, so you don’t have to listen to any of their new stuff.

Jim Gray Barricaded In His Office Watching New Taylor Swift Video On Loop

By: Harold Leeder

September 14, 2017

It’s been over two weeks since Taylor Swift debuted the music video to her new song ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ and Mayor Jim Gray is yet to emerge from his office. Staffers say he barricaded himself in the office shortly after the VMA watch party he makes everyone attend every year and has been doing nothing but watching the new video ever since.

“We’re starting to get concerned,” said Edwin Sheridan a staffer and long standing member of Gray’s squad. “We knocked on the door and there was no response, we knew he was alive because we could hear him singing along inside. We tried calling his office phone to ask him to come out but when he answered he would just say ‘the former vice mayor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, because he’s dead.’ Then we’d hear the unmistakable sounds of rapid, enthusiastic dancing.”

“To be fair we were warned about this but we didn’t take it seriously,” explained Sheridan. “We got a call from someone who said they were on his vice mayoral staff in 2008 when the ‘You Belong With Me’ video came out. They told us to remove the locks from his office immediately, but we thought it was a prank call.”

Sheridan explained, Gray decided to lock himself in his office after an altercation with one of the interns occurred just as the VMA’s concluded.  The intern suggested, “Sir if you love Taylor, you should check out this new Katy Perry video.” Gray promptly smashed a wooden chair and came after the intern with a portion of the chair’s splintered leg. As the intern scurried away Gray looked around and, with a wild look in his eye, said “I need to watch the video again,” and ran into his office. No one has seen him face-to-face since.

The mayor’s office thought they had things under control until they found out Gray had made a phone call to Lexington police asking that they investigate a crime. When police asked what needed to be investigated, Gray said in a serious and ominous tone, “We need to figure out what we made Taylor Swift do.” Gray then blasted music and sang loudly into the receiver. Needless to say, the police chief is not happy.

Matt Bevin Still Thinks College Degrees Help People Get Jobs

By: Harold Leeder

September 13, 2017

Governor Matt Bevin took some time off of ranting on Facebook Live yesterday to rant at a post-secondary education conference where he attempted to mansplain what’s really wrong with colleges today.

The governor, who graduated from a private liberal arts school with a degree in East Asian Studies, had a lot to say about how universities should cut academic programs that don’t fill high-demand jobs. “I plan on making Kentucky the manufacturing epicenter of America, and we as educators have to ask ourselves, what are we doing to plan for it. Our state universities are digging deep into our budget, and not one of them offers a major in factory work. Shouldn’t college be preparing us for the future job market? You know, our colleges are still offering ‘journalism’ as a major and politicians don’t even do press conferences anymore, get with the times.”

“I was shocked and excited to hear there were even high-demand jobs out there,” said Julie McCafferty, a recent University of Kentucky graduate with a degree in communication. “So far, local college graduates that I know have done a pretty good job filling positions in the food service industry, so really, it was just exciting to hear that there were other industries out there looking to fill vacant positions.”

“I think it’s a good idea to cut financing from any programs that don’t lead to high paying jobs,” said Barrett Jackson, a barista with an MBA that we weren’t planning on speaking to. “I think if you’re a student stuck in a major that doesn’t help you get a job when you graduate, then you’re wasting your time and your parents money,” Jackson shouted over the whir of the frappaccino blender.

Governor Bevin, who apparently is still of the belief that having a college degree helps you get a job, explained exactly why college’s should look into cutting different programs. “If there’s one thing that worries me it’s Kentuckians wasting 4 years of their life by putting faith in something they think is going to make their future better, when it’s clearly not helping them in any way shape or form.”

He walked away from the podium for a moment before quickly running back to the microphone and yelled, “College, I was talking about college there.”

Ark Encounter Completes Successful Circumnavigation Of Kentucky’s Tax Laws

By: Harold Leeder

September 11, 2017

Thanks to a recent state tax rebate of $1.8 million, Williamstown’s much-maligned Ark Encounter has officially become the first religious vessel to successfully circumnavigate Kentucky’s tax laws.

Ark Encounter captain Ken Ham may not consider he and his crew to be gruff, seasoned seamen, but the speed and consistency with which he was able to maneuver around the state’s complicated tax laws has nautical historians and H&R Block accountants alike at a loss for words.

“I’m at a loss for words,” said H&R Block accountant and coincidentally nautical historian Andy Douglas. “In just one year’s time the Ark Encounter has been able to go from an embarrassing eye sore for the state of Kentucky to an embarrassing eye sore for the state of Kentucky with a $1.8 million rebate.”

Despite the high praise from Andy Douglas and literally no one else, Ham remains humble.

“Circumnavigation is a touchy subject for a lot of people, but it’s in the Old Testament,” said Ham, thinking instead about circumcision. “God even told Abraham to circumnavigate himself.”

“When it rains it pours, and when God tells you it’s gonna flood you grab an umbrella,” Ham paused a moment before finishing his thought by loudly coughing out the word, “corporation.”

“We knew these waters weren’t going to easy,” Ham said, referring to the tax codes as water for some reason. “So we rigged her up with a $10 sail and we set a course. It was hard to resist the siren’s song of being a decent member of the community and realizing all the breaks we’d already gotten and not trying to push our luck but we resisted that call and pushed forward.”

City Can’t Remember What This Halloween Express Used To Be

By: Harold Leeder

September 7, 2017

As Lexington residents’ holiday attention turns from Labor Day celebrations to Halloween, enthusiastic costume shoppers gather outside a building beneath what appears to be a newly hung banner that reads “Halloween Express.” As the shoppers prepare to go buy unimaginative male costumes or female costumes made with the minimum amount of material one question permeates through the crowd; ‘what was in this building yesterday?’

“Was it a Kohls? Was it a Platinum Plus? I have no idea and I know I’ll forget to look come November,” said shopper Mike Meijer. “Tuesday morning!” Meijer then shouted as if Archimedes had just discovered a solution. After a moment of pause Meijer realized that Tuesday Morning was next door, and also a store he really shouldn’t even know about.

“So if the Jo Ann Fabric next door is still open, then what was this? Is it possible it’s a Halloween Express year round and we just don’t notice it until we are looking for it like that Baader-Meinhof phenomenon? I don’t know, I just came here to pick up this Rocket Scientist costume for my daughter,” said shopper Fredrick Kroger as he held up a hanger with little more than a spaceship adorned bikini and a pair of glasses.

“I mean if you think about it, this whole Halloween Express store is a pretty good costume, because I have no idea what normal store is wearing it,” Kroger said. “Pretty meta man. I mean if you go into an old McDonalds, you know it’s an old McDonalds right? But this place, it’s the perfect disguise. Crazy to think about.”

As Meijer and Kroger looked at the store, searching their brains for what used to be, Meijer looked over and said, “They took down the statues, I mean mannequins, of the old store here and we forgot our history, sad.”

Second Protest To Be Held Downtown As Soon As People Figure Out What DACA Is

By: Harold Leeder

September 6, 2017

Last night hundreds of Lexington residents gathered in front of the courthouse downtown, to protest the Trump administration’s recent decision to end the DACA program, however it seemed only a select handful of the group truly understood what this meant.

“Look if there’s one thing I don’t like it’s Trump’s stance on immigration, so that’s why I’m down here. You know, to support people that may not have a voice, or are unable to speak out, in fear that they might be persecuted or deported for doing so. And as soon as I know a little bit more about what Trump did, I plan on doing something about it,” said protester Tammy Jackson, as she held a blank sign in one hand and a sharpie in the other.

“We want DACA, yes we do. We want DACA how ‘bout you?” The spirited crowd began to chant before it morphed into “DACA, DACA it is good, it helps… families?” The crowd then began to look around at each other hoping someone knew enough about what DACA was to explain it to the crowd but no one did; it was then that the angry mob decided they would need to reschedule their protest until they had enough time to google to find out what exactly it was they were mad about.

DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is an immigration policy put forth by the Obama administration that allows minors that may have entered the country illegally to get on track for being here legally. This policy forged a way for almost a million young people nationwide that wouldn’t otherwise be accounted for to get a driver’s license, or enroll in college, or potentially become legal employees and pay taxes.

“We didn’t really even know that this policy was controversial? I think that’s why we know so little about it? It’s pretty frustrating that in a time where many of us as Americans are coming together to help those in Houston rebuild after a disaster, and help those in Florida prepare for an impending one, that we have to go back to what we were doing at the beginning of August and worry about protesting everything,” Jackson explained.

“I mean I was gonna start a chant, but I’m not sure if it sounds like NASA with a soft C, or you say it like DACKA, so it’s hard to know where to go with a rhyme scheme. I’ve only seen it written down, and I’m pretty sure today was the first day I saw it,” said Jackson as she looked up the acronym on rhymezone.com.

No One Quite Sure What Kevin Renfro Did With Becker Family

By: Harold Leeder

September 1, 2017

In an age where more Morgans seem to be added to the Morgan and Morgan establishment every week, some law watchers have started asking an uncomfortable question that no one has quite been able to answer yet: what did Kevin Renfro do with the Becker family? Renfro seems to have established himself as the face of a law firm, but he has become the face of a law firm which bears another family’s name.

Some in our office, Jeff mainly, think that Kevin Renfro has kidnapped the Becker Law Office and is masquerading as the new lead council in some sort of fully clothed ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ situation. “I dunno about y’all but my eyes are wide open,” concluded Jeff who’s always here but doesn’t really work here per se.

An even more woke law watcher we spoke to believes that Renfro has stashed the Becker family away in the same place the other Isaacs from Isaacs & Isaacs is. “While it’s not based on any facts it’s still a very real possibility,” our source, Clint, who wished to remain anonymous told us.

“I’m just wondering why no one is asking questions about all these lawyers that serve Kentucky and keep disappearing. It’s like once Eric C. Conn hit that New Mexico border everyone stopped looking,” said one man that called our office, and assured us he was not Eric C. Conn, even though we kept asking if he was.

“I don’t know for sure what happened to any of them,” the man that wasn’t Eric C. Conn conceded. “But if the lost Isaacs, Gary Becker and the Hughes that seems to have gotten cut off by Kaughman and Stigger can all team up, Insurance companies in this state would be shaking in their boots.”

Rob Bromley Drafts Johnny Unitas In WKYT Fantasy Football League

By: Harold Leeder

August 31, 2017

The WKYT news team held their annual fantasy football draft last night and, in honor of his upcoming retirement, Rob Bromley was made league commissioner for the year. The staff quickly came to regret the decision as Bromley attempted to use his first order of business to eliminate the forward pass from this year’s competition.

Commissioner Bromley said, “I tried to give em a chance, ‘I’ll even take away the forward pass,’ I said; but Sabirah and Kristen weren’t having it, they love a good QB.  So as commissioner all I got to do was pick the draft time, and add my new bobblehead to the top of the trophy.”

Bromley made waves early in the draft with the controversial selection of Johnny Unitas, “What’s a guy to do when the golden arm is still sitting there at the third pick? I’ve got this one in the bag, I haven’t been able to get Johnny U since ’56.  Later in the mid-rounds I got two stellar left tackles,  that’s what these young kids seem to forget, always draft a fullback early.”

“I don’t know if he knows how it works,” said Chris Bailey, who refused to draft any players that play in a dome because he feels they are “weather dodgers.” Bailey continued, “Officer Don (team name Officer First Don And Ten) really threw us all for a loop when he drafted only kickers, he might be a genius or he might be the worst player I’ve ever seen.”

“Sean Moody skyped into the draft because he had already prepaid for this year and there’s no way he was going to let those $10 go to waste,” Bailey told us. “I think my pick to win the league though is Palumbo (Head Coach of Team 3rd and Nime). I think she’s the only one that at least got a player at each position.”

“Palumbo is an idiot,” Bromley said. “Her pretty boy receivers wouldn’t stand a chance against Chuck Bednarik who I got as a steal in the third round.”

Since Bromley will be retiring soon, Victor Puente has been named League-Commissioner-In-Waiting. “I’m looking forward to my role of the league’s Dungeon Master, you see I have many years of experience in the world of games, xp if you are so incl…” we noticed he was still talking several minutes later, long after we had left the room.

Matt Bevin Forced To Stay And Clean Erasers After Recent Facebook Live Video

By: Harold Leeder

August 30, 2017

Former Hall Monitor Matt Bevin’s appearance on Facebook Live yesterday landed him in a bit of hot water with teachers statewide. Bevin used his preferred method of interaction with the public to address the potential cutbacks to state employees pensions, but what drew the ire of many teachers, is when he tried to convince viewers that anyone who does the job of teaching our youth and expects money in return should retire. The governor attempted to end his Facebook Live in time to escape any corporal punishment from teachers, hoping to be saved by the bells for the second time in his life. However, his attempt to “pull a Zach Morris” came to a screeching halt, as he was made to stay after and clean all of the erasers.

“You shouldn’t be doing this for the money,” the leader of the state and recipient of a $128,000 annual salary from the state government told Kentucky’s teachers. “I’ve heard teachers say ‘the kids teach me more than I teach them,’ so really, those teachers should be paying us for the chance to advance their own education.”

Bevin continued, “I made a video that I’ll be releasing later this month, of me in a high school on a Saturday and guess what? None of the so called teachers were even there. There also weren’t even any lesson plans or papers to be graded there or anything, I guess they took them home with them or something.”

As a result of his actions the Kentucky Teachers Association order Bevin to clean all of the erasers, he was given two days of detention and, maybe worst of all, the teachers association called Bevin’s parents at work. A spokesperson for the governor said he expects to be grounded but is hopeful his parents won’t take away his phone, and that teachers don’t vote during his next electoral campaign.
