“Maybe It’s Not Meant To Be” Says Man Who Planned To Propose During Foo Fighters Concert

By: Harold Leeder

October 23, 2017

Jake Groovely had planned to propose to his long-term girlfriend Anna Hucks during the inevitable encore performance of “Everlong” at the Foo Fighters concert at Rupp Arena before the show was cancelled, ruining the weekends of many of Lexington’s formerly cool residents.

After they learned the concert was cancelled, Groovely thought maybe he’d try his luck proposing to Hucks at an elegant dinner at Lockbox Restaurant inside Hotel 21c where the couple had originally planned to stay the night. “It’s not like Jimmy Johns, even the smells are pretty expensive, but I mean, a nice, expensive restaurant with good atmosphere and romantic lighting, it’s just no place to ask a gal to be your wife.” said Groovely. “So I think we’re just gonna drive back to Newport now, I’m not springing for a room if I’m this sober.”

Groovely says he’s willing to drive as far as Columbus but not as far as Cleveland for the picture perfect proposal. “I want to share this special moment with her and 10,000 strangers,” said Groovely. “Me on one knee, Grohl fricking shredding while I shout ‘You wanna get married?’ at her while she struggles to know if I’m serious or if that’s part of the song.”

Why the Foo Fighters and not some other band? “Because our love is a lot like the Foo Fighters,” said Groovely. “Like when they got rid of the Sunny Day Real Estate drummer, and then Dave had to redo all the drums himself, and then they brought in Taylor. Our love don’t move to the beat of just one drummer.”

Groovely’s spirits plummeted after the concert was cancelled and he began to have second doubts, like Dave Grohl himself had about having performing in Lexington apparently. “I’m probably still going to marry her,” said Groovely. “It just depends on whether the Foo Fighters come back anytime soon.”

Groovely added, “I hope she doesn’t read this article.”

Bevin’s Pension Fix Begins With His “Unleash The Pension Within” Seminar Series

By: Harold Leeder

October 19, 2017

Kentucky Governor and honorary Mayor of Guntown Mountain, Matt Bevin, gathered a number of high ranking government officials and poorly paid reporters in a meeting room at the Capital Plaza Hotel yesterday morning where it was expected he would unveil his new pension plan.

Bevin, equipped with a mic that clipped to his ear and wrapped around his face, began the press conference/investment opportunity with a powerful message. “We all know the pension system is a mess, and we’ve all blamed a lot of it on the legislators of our past, but what if I told you the pension has been within you this whole time?” The governor then glanced off-stage for a moment, which cued a confetti drop synced with a musical explosion of keyboard rock as he yelled, “And you all had the power to release the pension within!”

The governor ran off stage attempting to high five press members sitting in the aisleways as he shouted, “Everyone got a pamphlet at the door, and I believe that anyone can succeed with this pension through the power of prayer, positive thinking, and our $9.99 audio book.” An assistant stood on stage holding up a copy, Your Best Pension NOW, on the cover.  “If you fill out the information on the back page you will receive a book and CD-ROM set that will explain how you alone control the power of your pension.”

The now winded governor walked slowly back to the stage as the music faded out, and once he caught his breath spent the next two and a half hours detailing his plan.

“Retirement savings will be based on how much time you devote to sales,” began the governor as he lined up some products on the podium. “Dietary supplements, all natural energy drinks, rejuvenation cream, body wash. And trust me, these are all quality products I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t use them myself.” He squeezed a bead of the rejuvenation cream onto the back of his hand and rubbed it in.

“All state workers will purchase these products in bulk from the governor’s mansion,” he said and pointed to the top of a sectioned pyramid projected behind him with “Public SERVANTS” labelled on the base.

Towards the end Bevin urged a group from the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association to “fire-walk” across a platform of hot coals.

“I can teach you a lot more about what to expect when you retire but first I want you all to listen to Jeff who is going to tell you about a great investment opportunity in Gatlinburg Cabin Timeshares.”

Jim Gray Calls Family of Fallen Confederate Statue

By: Harold Leeder

October 18, 2017

A crowd gathered downtown yesterday as Lexington began removing confederate statues under the guise of darkness and very bright construction lights. As the powerful lights illuminated the statue and the enormous crane began hoisting it away, some onlookers cheered the removal of what they considered a symbol of hate. As a few others mourned the loss of what they felt was a historic monument, everyone in attendance wondered why this, seemingly efficient, crew couldn’t swing over and help finish up the CentrePointe project.

Following the removal, former Vice Mayor Jim Gray announced that, since it was his decision to remove the statues, he would be calling the families of the fallen statues himself to offer his condolences. “No other mayor has ever taken the time to call the families themselves,” Gray said (because no one has ever had to). “I knew it would not be an easy decision, but, I felt it was the right decision. That being said, he knew what he was signing up for when he enlisted in a traitorous army.”

The task of calling the family wasn’t easy. “I called the immediate family of the statue,” Gray said, referring to that statue of Joe B Hall. “I know he answered, I could hear birds and stuff but he said nothing. That made it even harder.”

Everyone reacted differently to the removal, one onlooker was seen saluting into the air as the Young Guns 2 soundtrack played on his phone. Local street artist, 5/3 Banksy, fought back tears as he spoke about not getting to crudely decorate the horse genitalia one last time. Gray concluded his remarks on the proceedings by saying, “now that the racist statues have been moved we just have to figure out where to move the living racists.”

Kid Embarrassed That His Dad And Drake Have The Same Hoodie

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. “What a great event, this was a great weekend,” said father, Big Blue Madness watcher, father and proud owner of ‘Kentucky Dad’ sweatshirt, Keith Miller. “This was one of the worst weekends of my life,” said somewhat overdramatic Kentucky son Cayden Miller.

“It was great to see this rapper guy Doctor Drake wearing the exact same sweatshirt I had on,” Keith Miller said before being interrupted by his son informing him that it was just Drake. Doctor Dre is someone entirely different Cayden explained before putting his head in his hands and letting out an exasperated sigh after his mother asked if these guy’s names were a play on ‘Dr. Drake Ramoray,’ “the character Joey played on that soap opera on Friends.”

“This weekend was great, not only did I look cool all weekend, I didn’t get mad at the UK football team once. I’ve also ordered 4 more sweatshirts just like this one,” Keith said pointing at his now somewhat dingy ‘Kentucky Dad’ sweatshirt. “My boy is so lucky to have a dad as cool as Drake.”

“My dad thinking he is Drake is a bad look for Drake,” Cayden said. “This is a worse look for Drake than that time he airmailed that three.”

Keith grinned as he said told his son, “just wait until Snoop Dogg and I have the same ‘World’s Greatest Grandpa’ mug.”

UberEATS Begins Delivering Food To The Highest People In Lexington Today

By: Harold Leeder

October 12, 2017

Today Lexington welcomes the launch of UberEATS, the app that turns every restaurant into Jimmy Johns. No, wait, they don’t add mayonnaise to everything, or help you hunt and kill endangered species, it’s really just reminiscent of the other thing Jimmy Johns is apparently known for, delivering food quickly.

If you’ve ever been drunk in a much larger city, you may be familiar with the ridesharing app Uber, you can think of it as a less socially conscious Lyft. Well, they have decided now that instead of using a complex technology platform used only to deliver high and drunk people around town, they’ll use the same technology to safely bring food to those high people.

“I love our new system. I mean, the food doesn’t yell at you to pull into Taco Bell, only to then dump sour cream and Baja Blast all over you backseat. The food waits til you get home to be eaten,” said UberEATS driver Jeff Gordon Ramsey.

Ramsey continued, “Look we’ve all been so super high, that we’re too paranoid to actually call someone to order food, because they’ll ‘know’. So that’s where we at UberEATS come in. You can just pause a game of candy crush and order whatever you want by clicking a series of pictures and I’ll bring it to you, and you can eat it in the safety of your home, and no one will know how high you are.”

“Oh man I’ve always wanted to eat Detroit Coney Island in the privacy of my bathtub, and now that dream has become a reality,” explained first time UberEATS customer Willow Jackson.

Hopefully the app will help the city’s ongoing traffic issues, by taking some of our highest drivers off the road, specifically in times of their greatest hunger. However, not everyone views the introduction of the new business as an improvement to the well-being of Kentucky’s citizens. Governor Matt Bevin explained in a recent Facebook live event that he is worried that UberEATS delivering food to customers who are too high to drive, will only exacerbate the problem of “people overdosing on marijuana.”

Officer Don Begins Furiously Writing His Own Eminem Response Rap For CMAs

By: Harold Leeder

October 11, 2017

Former rapper Eminem made waves last night when he released a freestyle rap at the BET Hip Hop Awards that lashed out at President Donald Trump. He hit Trump and his supporters with a fury of nearly rhyming lines pulled straight from a Huffington Post article’s comment section, while taking breaks to catch his breath and show off his middle finger. The video began circulating online immediately after it’s airing and caught the attention of many, specifically, Lexington’s own CMA award winner Officer Don.

Don announced this morning that he would be recording and releasing a response rap as part of his much anticipated CMA’s appearance. “Awards shows are no time for politics, you never see people talking about politics at the Oscars, but once Eminem laid down the gauntlet, I had to accept,” Don said. “Some people have said ‘Hey Don, country music and hip hop don’t mix,’ and I’m like ‘uhhh tell that to Senator Kid Rock.’”

Don then got more specific about the Eminem video and what he disliked about it. “I hated everything about that video. First off, he was in a parking garage. Parking garages have a ton of that sweet, sweet traffic, but they have roofs so you can’t see any of the good stuff from your chopper. They are literally one of my least favorite things.”

Don has reportedly already reserved CentrePointe to film his video. While the backdrop of the somewhat filled in hole will provide an aesthetic match to the abandoned Detroit parking garage Eminem used, many are asking why Officer Don bothered to reserve something that will likely never open to the public. “I hear there will be a Jack Ruby’s Steakhouse there too, why don’t you get us some reservations there instead,” joked Officer Don’s on-air but not real life partner DeAnn. “I support Officer in this (they’re on a first name basis). I’ll be behind him, out of focus and leaning against a car. My presence will never really be explained but it will help make him look tough I’m told.” DeAnn finished with, “but next year, I get the song.”

LexTran Rebrands As ColumBuses For The Day, Will Refer To Each Stop As “India”

By: Harold Leeder

October 9, 2017

Lexington’s public transit authority has announced that, in celebration of Columbus Day, that buses will be renamed Columbuses and drivers have been instructed announce proudly at each stop, “Here we are in India, anyone who thinks we are in Lexington is wrong!”

Drivers have also been encouraged to then speak at length as passengers get on and off the bus about how he or she, driver of the bus, discovered this bus stop and should be celebrated for their discovery even though they keep referring to the Locust Hill at Man-O-War Center stop as “India.”

LexTran Director Tony Ferdinand explained, “Hopefully, if nothing else, this practice will open up a dialogue on what we as a country allow our banks to call holidays. Like we need to really think about what we let the people who hold on to our money for us celebrate.“

Ferdinand was also quick to point out, “I don’t know why everyone keeps blaming us for smallpox. Our buses are clean. Maybe some people have never ridden the bus before but anyone looking to try it out today, I’ll give you this advice. Riding the bus is a lot like Columbus’ first voyage from Europe. you’re not gonna end up where you want to go, and it will take longer than necessary.”

Your 9 Best Bets For The Opening Weekend Of Keeneland’s Fall Meet

By: Harold Leeder

October 6, 2017

Keeneland is a time for gambling, whether it’s betting on horses or eating burgoo without asking questions about what it’s made from you’ll need all the help you can get wading your way through the minefield that is Keeneland’s opening weekend. Here are some helpful tips:

  1. If a guy is wearing a brightly colored or paisley suit and is not fall down drunk by noon, then he’s probably an undercover cop.
  2. Don’t bet whatever some strange guy in a bowler cap said was a sure thing. If he knew a lot about betting on horses, he’d be in a different section, and sure as heck wouldn’t be telling strangers about it.
  3. See if your good sweater still fits before you are ready to head out to the track. You’ve discovered craft beer since the last fall meet. Be realistic with yourself.
  4. “Lost your shirt” is just an expression, so please stop taking your shirt off Tommy. We’re all glad you workout but have a little class, and help me carry Todd back to the shuttle bus.
  5. There will be horses outside the gates trying to get you to take their pamphlets and talk to them about their ‘religion’ of horse gods, avoid these horses they’re trying to get you to join a colt (unless joining one behooves you).
  6. Park in the paved lot near someone with a big tent and an awesome food setup. If anyone asks what you’re doing there say, “Oh I’m Scott I work with Gina,” and then shove another horse d’oeuvre in your mouth so you can’t answer any more of their questions.
  7. Try to go in with a lot of money. rich people seem to do well there.
  8. Do not drink anything out of a jockey’s boot, it’s not a tradition, it’s just something that will continue to live on instagram forever.
  9. If you wear jockey silks and walk up to the entrance and say “I’ve been a good boy and I’m here for a great time,” they have to let you ride a horse during a race.
