  1. 50% of teams will lose their first game – I know you think, these are the 64 best teams in the country, they are all set to do pretty well, but I’m here to tell you over half of these teams are fakers that will be gone before Saturday.
  2. The higher the number next to the team, the less likely they are to win – If you’re like me and other amateur botanists, you are probably thinking, this team, like a dandelion, has the most seeds so it will probably flourish, but I’m here to tell you, that’s not usually the case.
  3. Don’t make your picks based of BW3’s commercials – If you’ve seen any commercials for beer or wings or places that sell beer and/or wings, you probably have seen hypothetical championship games taking place between ‘State’ and ‘Tech.’ Don’t let this impact your decision making. While state schools have historically faired all right in the tournament, a technical college has never won the NCAA tournament.
  4. Only 25% of Final Four teams win Championships – Reaching the Final Four for many people might seem like a big accomplishment, but remember, only a quarter of the teams that make it will end up with a title.
  5. It is rare for more than one team to go undefeated in the tournament – I looked at the stats from the past 12 years and in that time only one team has finished the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record each year; the rest of the teams have lost an average of one game per tournament.
