Using Spectrum Cable As Model, UK Raises Tuition Knowing There’s Nothing You Can Do About It

The University of Kentucky took a page out of Spectrum Cable’s book today as they announced an increase in prices and fees, knowing full well there’s nothing anyone can do about it. The University announced they will be raising tuition 4%; the announcement continues their trend of raising tuition as the value of an undergraduate collegiate degree declines. The tuition increase has priced out another group of students from pursuing an education, but, University officials were quick to point out, there’s a sushi place and a Steak n’ Shake on campus now.

While UK has reportedly spent an average of $1 million a day on construction since 2011, this investment seems to be paying off.  Over the last six years the school has helped create its fair share of millionaires, ranging from professional basketball players to on-site Lexington-based general contractors.

As is the case with Spectrum Cable, the University has also seen a number of students ‘cutting the cord’ on traditional education and start streaming their education via instructional Youtube videos.
